Justice and Public Safety

Today, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, along with the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, announced that Todd Stanley, Q.C. has been appointed to the role of Deputy Minister with the Department of Justice and Public Safety on an acting basis.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Provincial Government today announced 10 appointments to the Provincial Apprenticeship and Certification Board. The appointments were recommended through the Independent Appointments Commission.

The Provincial Government has appointed four part-time review commissioners to the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Review Division (WHSCRD). The appointments were made through the merit-based appointment process established by the Independent Appointments Commission Act and are effective immediately.

The Provincial Government today announced the appointment of David Conway of St. John’s as Chairperson of the Labour Relations Board for a five-year term effective August 7, 2017. The appointment was recommended through the Independent Appointments Commission.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today invites all residents to join him in congratulating the athletes from the province who recently competed at the North American Indigenous Games held in Toronto, Ontario, July 16-23.

Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner

During this reporting period (April 1 – June 30, 2017), the OIPC received 41 privacy breach reports from 15 public bodies under the ATIPPA, 2015. This is down from the 43 reports from 18 public bodies in the first quarter of 2017/2018.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has appointed seven people to the Eastern Regional Health Authority Board of Trustees. The appointments were made through the merit-based appointment process established by the Independent Appointments Commission.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will release the Premier’s Task Force Report on Improving Educational Outcomes tomorrow (Tuesday, July 25). Premier Ball will be joined by the Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, and Dr. Alice Collins, Task Force Chairperson. The event will take place at Elwood Regional High School, 22 Farm Road in Deer Lake, at 1:00 p.m.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, today announced funding for six organizations totalling $300,000 through the Age-Friendly Grants Program. The funding will help create more inclusive, accessible communities.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, is pleased with an agreement that will invest $3 billion in Canada’s agriculture and agri-foods industry over the next five years.

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

The agriculture and agri-food sector is a key growth industry in Canada, contributing over $100 billion annually to the economy and employing 2.3 million Canadians.

Executive Council

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will be in Corner Brook on Monday, July 24, to announce the recipients of the Provincial Government’s Age-Friendly Transportation Program grants. The announcement will take place 9:15 a.m. at the Corner Brook Arts and Culture Centre, 11 University Drive.

Justice and Public Safety

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, today released an external review of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Minister Parsons committed to the review after a murder charge related to a 2013 death was withdrawn in December 2015 due to forensic evidence being misplaced.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

Today, the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, and the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour and MHA for the District of Corner Brook, announced a new fire truck for the City of Corner Brook.
