The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Service NL

In the latest step towards modernizing the auto insurance system in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Provincial Government has finalized the terms of reference for the automobile insurance review for Service NL and the Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities (PUB). Government has directed the PUB to begin its review and provide a report on automobile insurance in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Natural Resources

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, is attending the Energy and Mines Ministers' Conference in St. Andrew's by-the-Sea, New Brunswick, August 14-15. The conference is being co-hosted by the Government of New Brunswick and the Government of Canada.

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, and Bernard Davis, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Service NL, will provide an update on the latest milestone in the Automobile Insurance Review.

Mark Browne, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will attend a reception to mark the anniversary of the Atlantic Charter. The event takes place at 6:00 p.m. today (Monday, August 14), at Crow’s Nest, 88 Water Street, St. John’s. At the reception there will a video link to a presentation taking place at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto where Edward and Jocelyn Badovinac of Ontario will present commemorative Atlantic Charter plaques to the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

An official groundbreaking was held today for a new affordable housing complex to be constructed in Clarenville.

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, today congratulated members of Team Newfoundland and Labrador on their participation in the 2017 Canada Summer Games, which took place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, from July 28 to August 13.

Today, the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, joined the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and MHA for Burgeo-La Poile, in announcing approximately $2.6 million in funding for a new municipal depot in Channel-Port aux Basques under the Municipal Capital Works program.

Team Newfoundland and Labrador has reached the podium at the 2017 Canada Summer Games with wrestler Angel Hiltz-Morrell capturing a silver medal in the women�s wrestling 84-kilogram division on Friday, August 11, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was also named flagbearer for Team Newfoundland and Labrador for the closing ceremonies held on Sunday, August 13.

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, will join the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and MHA for Burgeo-La Poile, for an infrastructure funding announcement on Monday, August 14. The event will take place at 12-14 Hopedale Avenue, Channel-Port aux Basques, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Colin Holloway, Parliamentary Secretary for Municipal Affairs and Environment, will participate in a groundbreaking ceremony in Clarenville for the New Life Christian Centre – a cost-shared, $1.25 million housing development that will see 10 two-bedroom units designed to accommodate persons with complex needs. The event will take place on Monday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the site development on Pleasant Street.

Mark Browne, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation and Francophone Affairs, will attend festivities organized by the St. John’s Francophone Association to celebrate Acadian Day. The events begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday (August 13), at the Francophone School and Community Center (Centre des Grands-Vents), 65 Ridge Road, St. John’s.

Carol Anne Haley, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honouable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will bring greetings at the third annual Health Care Foundation Dialysis Dash.

The Town of Harbour Grace is stepping up its efforts to increase the number of visitors to its town and further develop the tourism sector by improving community infrastructure and creating new ways to enhance visitors’ experience.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources is hosting two public information sessions to provide the public with an opportunity to learn more about plans to upgrade and utilize a section of the Newfoundland T’Railway system. The upgrades are being undertaken as part of the 2017-2021 five-year operating plan for Forest Management Zone 3 which was recently approved through the provincial environmental assessment process.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will join Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency tomorrow (Friday, August 11) for funding announcements related to tourism initiatives.

Today, the Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, welcomed Husky’s awarding of major contracts related to the West White Rose project to companies in Newfoundland and Labrador. This includes a construction contract to the general partnership of Pennecon Ltd., SNC Lavalin and Dragados Canada for the building of the concrete gravity structure and a contract to fabricate the living quarters to Kiewit Offshore Services in Marystown.
