Justice and Public Safety

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador fully appreciates that people have legitimate concerns with the Muskrat Falls project. Our government supports the right to lawful and peaceful protest however once the level of protest exceeds the limits laid out in the law, we must respect judicial decisions.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Granite Lake Forest Access Road, located immediately south of Millertown, will be closed for the entire day on Sunday, July 30. The closure is required to allow for emergency repairs to the bridge located on Black Brook, approximately one kilometre south of the Exploits River bridge crossing.

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Executive Council

During Council of the Federation sessions in Edmonton last week, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, joined other provincial premiers in calling for increased accountability and transparency for the federal Nutrition North Canada program.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

Today, the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, was joined by Scott Reid, MHA for St. George’s-Humber, to announce a new fire truck for Steady Brook and Little Rapids.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

Two sections of the T’Railway Provincial Park in central Newfoundland that were closed as a result of the Thanksgiving 2016 rain event have been reopened. Repairs to sections from Notre Dame Junction to Glenwood and from Glenwood to Gander have been completed and passed inspections.

Transportation and Works

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Transportation and Works, will welcome the MV Legionnaire to the Bell Island - Portugal Cove ferry service on Monday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. during a ceremony on board the vessel.

The Honourable Cathy Bennett, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, today announced that Moody’s Investors Service has affirmed the Provincial Government’s credit rating (long-term ‘Aa3’) and maintained a negative outlook.

Colin Holloway, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Innovation, will make a funding announcement on behalf of the Honourable Minister Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, to support fire services. The event will take place tomorrow (Friday, July 28) at the Lion's Club, Elliott's Cove, Random Island West, beginning at 7:45 p.m.

The event will take place tomorrow (Friday, July 28) at the Steady Brook Community Centre, Steady Brook, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

Nearly 400 athletes, volunteer coaches, managers and mission staff, as part of Team Newfoundland and Labrador, are on their way to Winnipeg, Manitoba, to represent the province at the 2017 Canada Summer Games, taking place July 28 - August 13.

Derek Bennett, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will be participating in meetings of federal, provincial and territorial ministers responsible for sport, physical activity and recreation. Meetings are being held at the Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on July 27 and 28.

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, will speak at the Bay St. George Chamber of Commerce EnviroSummit 2017 tomorrow (Thursday, July 27). The event will take place at Days Inn, 44 Queen Street, Stephenville. Minister Coady begins speaking at 11:50 a.m.

Transportation and Works

Ramp repairs to the MV Legionnaire are nearing completion with the vessel scheduled to begin service at Bell Island – Portugal Cove late afternoon on Monday, July 31. Prior to the start of service, the vessel will undergo trial runs and docking exercises beginning Friday, July 28.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources is partnering with local hunting and fishing associations around the province to offer hunter skills workshops for youth between the ages of 12 and 17.

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, today announced that Eldred Barnes has been appointed as Associate Deputy Minister in the department.
