Fisheries and Land Resources
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has made $2.5 million available to support plant workers impacted by the downturn in the fishing sector. Funding will come from the Labour Market Development Agreement and is in addition to $500,000 for other supports available under the Integrated Transition Framework for Displaced Plant Workers, which responds to communities and individuals impacted by fish plant closures.

One year into the implementation of Towards Recovery: The Mental Health and Addictions Action Plan for Newfoundland and Labrador, there has been a 35 per cent reduction in the number of people waiting for mental health and addictions counselling services across the province.
Minister Dempster Announces Grants for Accessible Taxis

The Provincial Government announced today that five additional accessible taxis will now operate in communities throughout the province through the Accessible Taxi Funding Program and the Age-Friendly Transportation Program. The recipients, who will use the funding to purchase or retrofit their vehicles for accessibility, are Bursey’s Taxi in Conception Bay South, Star Taxi in Corner Brook, Newfound Cabs in St. John’s, Lewisporte Taxi in Lewisporte, and My Taxi Cabs in Bay Roberts.

Supporting a Growing Craft Brewing Industry

As part of a continued goal of supporting the growing craft brewing industry in the province and the associated business and employment opportunities, the Federal and Provincial Governments are investing $300,000 for the Dildo Brewing Company and Museum to set up processing facilities to produce high-quality crafted beer. This supports the private-sector investment of several hundred thousand dollars by the partners involved in the new operation.
