Health and Community Services

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, and the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, federal Minister of Health, announced the signing of a bilateral agreement under the Government of Canada’s new Emergency Treatment Fund yesterday at the health ministers meeting in Winnipeg.

Finance

As part of its continued commitment to seek opportunities to optimize assets to ensure that they generate an economic benefit for the province, the Provincial Government today announced plans to enhance Marble Mountain Ski Resort as a provincial tourism asset through private sector involvement.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

Graham Letto, Parliamentary Secretary for Natural Resources and MHA for Labrador West, will make an infrastructure announcement on behalf of the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, tomorrow (Friday, June 29). Parliamentary Secretary Letto will be joined by Yvonne Jones, MP for Labrador, and Fabian Benoit, Deputy Mayor of Labrador City. The event will take place at 12:00 p.m. at the Labrador City Town Hall, 317 Hudson Drive, Labrador City.

Executive Council

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, along with a delegation of over 100 Royal Canadian Legion members, veterans and students, and the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band, is travelling on an annual pilgrimage to Beaumont-Hamel, France, June 27 to July 4.

Finance

The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, will join the Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources and MHA for St. John’s West; Nick Whalen, Member of Parliament for St. John’s East; and Danny Breen, Mayor of the City of St. John’s; tomorrow (Friday, June 29) for a funding announcement for important infrastructure.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The portion of the T'Railway Provincial Park from Logger School Road to Gallants has been repaired and is now open.

Transportation and Works

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Newfoundland and Labrador Minister of Transportation and Works, and Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, today announced over $4.8 million in funding for improvements to the Veterans Memorial Highway.

Education and Early Childhood Development

As today is the official last day of the 2017-18 school year, the Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, is congratulating the 67,000 K-12 students, as well as all teachers and staff, on a successful year and wishing them a safe and enjoyable summer break.

The Provincial Government today announced it has reached tentative collective agreements with seven bargaining groups represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

Today, Premier Dwight Ball released a report completed by the Commissioner of Legislative Standards, Bruce Chaulk, who reviewed a matter of an alleged conflict of interest regarding Jade Holdings Ltd.

Mark Browne, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will bring greetings at the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the national historic significance of James Patrick Howley tomorrow (Thursday, June 28). The unveiling takes place in the Theatre Room of The Rooms, 9 Bonaventure Avenue, St. John’s, at 11:00 a.m.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will attend the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Skills Summit 2018 taking place in Portugal, June 28 and 29.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, will attend the meeting of federal, provincial and territorial minsters responsible for parks, protected areas, conservation, wildlife and biodiversity starting today (Wednesday, June 27) at Metropolitain, 700 Sussex Dr., Ottawa, Ontario.

Transportation and Works

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources is partnering with local rod and gun associations to offer hunter skills workshops to young people between the ages of 12 and 17.

Twelve athletes from Newfoundland and Labrador will receive funding from the Elite Athlete Assistance program for 2018.
