Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner

The Information and Privacy Commissioner, Donovan Molloy, has released his Report A-2018-018 under authority of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015. A summary of the Report is included below.

Service NL

The spring 2018 school bus inspections, conducted by Service NL, continue to show high pass ratings for bus operators again this year. Highway enforcement officers conduct mandatory inspections throughout the year to ensure high safety standards are being upheld.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources is making six additional Agriculture Areas of Interest – totalling approximately 5,800 hectares – available to ensure prime agricultural land continues to be protected and secured for long-term use.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

Derek Bennett, Parliamentary Secretary for Children, Seniors and Social Development and MHA for Lewisporte - Twillingate, on behalf of the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, will be joined by Scott Simms, Member of Parliament for Coast of Bays–Central–Notre Dame, and Betty Clarke, Mayor of the Town of Lewisporte, on Monday, July 30, to announce infrastructure investments in the region.

Health and Community Services

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will provide an update on work completed on the Burin Peninsula by the area’s primary health care team on Monday, July 30, at 1:30 p.m.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will announce the addition of two new categories under the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) on Monday, July 30. The announcement will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the HeyOrca! offices in Metro Place, 261 Kenmount Road, St. John’s.

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

The Provincial Government has appointed Wayde Rowsell as a worker representative to the WorkplaceNL Board of Directors. The appointment was made through the merit-based appointment process established by the Independent Appointments Commission Act and is effective immediately.

Executive Council

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, today announced the appointment of Bruce Hollett as interim President of College of the North Atlantic, replacing Dr. William Radford.

Transportation and Works

Motorists are advised that a section of the Team Gushue Highway from Kelsey Drive to Kenmount Road will be closed for the next several weeks due to construction in the area, beginning Friday, July 27.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Kippens Ridge Road forest access road in the Robert's Arm area will be closed to vehicle traffic from July 26 to 29.

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour and Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will attend the SHAD Open Day Exhibit at Memorial University tomorrow (Thursday, July 26) from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.. The exhibit is being held at The Landing, University Centre, 1 Arctic Avenue, St. John’s.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The Governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada are supporting the Botwood Mural Arts Society with more than $61,000 in funding to host the 2018 Global Mural Arts and Tourism Conference in Botwood from September 12 to 15. The conference will attract delegates from around the world who will gather to celebrate and discuss the important role that mural art plays in economic development and making communities stronger.

Vehicles will have limited access to the Granite Lake Road forest access road in the Millertown area from July 25 to 27.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

Today, the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment and Minister Responsible for the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB), attended the official opening of Hebert’s Recycling Inc.’s new recycling plant. Minister Parsons was joined by Kevin Sargent, CEO of Hebert’s Recycling Inc., and officials from the MMSB for a tour and a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the launch of the large private-sector facility in Mount Pearl.
