Children, Seniors and Social Development

The office of Children Seniors and Social Development at 1 Markham Place in Gander is closed due to a water main break that has caused flooding in the building. It is anticipated that the office will reopen on Monday, June 25.

House of Assembly

The Honourable Perry Trimper, Speaker of the House of Assembly for Newfoundland and Labrador, is pleased to announce the completion of the first bilateral meeting of the Québec-Newfoundland and Labrador Parliamentary Association, which took place June 12-14, 2018 in Québec City. Speaker Trimper was joined by Mr. Mark Browne, the MHA for Placentia West Bellevue; Mr. John Finn, the MHA for Stephenville-Port au Port; Mr. Jim Lester, the MHA for Mount Pearl North; and Mr. Graham Letto, the MHA for Labrador West.

The Provincial Government is encouraging residents of the province to observe National Indigenous Peoples Day by participating in events organized by Indigenous Governments and Organizations within the province.

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development and Minister Responsible for the Status of Persons with Disabilities, will speak at the Coalition of Persons with Disabilities Newfoundland and Labrador AGM and Inclusion Awards tomorrow (Thursday, June 21). The AGM and Inclusion Awards are being held at 6:00 p.m. at the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing and Homelessness Network Learning Centre, 77 Charter Avenue, St. John’s.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will speak at celebrations marking National Indigenous Peoples Day. The event is being hosted by the St. John’s Native Friendship Centre.

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources will hold public consultation sessions to prepare a new five-year operating plan for Forest Management Districts 14 and 15 (Zone 6). The meetings are an opportunity for participants to provide input on potential environmental effects of proposed forestry activities on social, economic and recreational conditions associated with the forest resource.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, in collaboration with the Public Legal Information Association of NL (PLIAN) and the Newfoundland and Labrador Sexual Assault Crisis and Prevention Centre (NLSACPC), today launched a program that offers free legal support to survivors of sexual violence.

The Department of Natural Resources Building in St. John’s at 50 Elizabeth Avenue will be closed for the remainder of the day due to a water main break.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will attend the Federal, Provincial and Territorial meetings of Ministers responsible for culture and heritage. The meetings take place June 19-20 in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will speak at the College of the North Atlantic’s graduation ceremony in Grand Falls-Windsor tomorrow (Tuesday, June 19). The event begins 1:00 p.m. at the Gordon Pinsent Centre for the Arts, 3 Cromer Avenue.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

Members of Team Newfoundland and Labrador’s mission staff for the 2019 Canada Winter Games were announced today by the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development. The games will be held from February 15 to March 3, 2019, in Red Deer, Alberta.
