Summer 2015 Cleanup of Outer Ring Road a Resounding Success

The third and final cleanup of the summer for the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in St. John’s took place this past weekend resulting in approximately 40 tons of garbage collected. In total, the three sweeps of the ORR saw approximately 110 tons of garbage collected, including many larger items such as mattresses and other household items.

Provincial Government Invests $1.3 Million for Eastern Region Long-Term Care

Residents at long-term care facilities in the eastern region of the province will benefit from a Provincial Government investment totalling approximately $1.3 million. This investment will assist with facility upgrades, maintenance, and the purchase of new health care equipment to help ensure a comfortable living environment for residents and their families.
CBS Bypass to Undergo Upgrades this Construction Season

Through an investment of over $695,000 under the Provincial Roads Program, various sections of the CBS Bypass (Peacekeepers Way) will be upgraded and repaved this construction season. The contract for the work has been awarded to Municipal Construction Ltd of Paradise.

Regular service at the Government Service Centre/Motor Registration offices in Corner Brook will resume tomorrow (Wednesday, August 12). The office was temporarily shut down in order to transfer operations back to their permanent offices on the bottom floor of the Sir Richard Squires Building. The Corner Brook Government Service Centre is open between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and can be reached via telephone at 1-877-636-6867.

Funding Provided for New Rescue Vehicle in Torbay

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, announced yesterday that funding is being provided to the Town of Torbay for vital rescue equipment. Through funding provided under Budget 2015, the Torbay Volunteer Fire Department is receiving funding for a new walk-in rescue vehicle valued at approximately $220,000. The funding for the new vehicle is being provided on a 70/30 basis with the Provincial Government providing the larger portion and the Town of Torbay providing the remainder.

Modernization and improvements are underway on 10 Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) homes on Topsail Road in Mount Pearl. G.S. Hunt Enterprises Ltd. was awarded a $417,000 contract to undertake interior and exterior renovations on the social housing properties.

Vale Meets 2013 Terms of the Voisey’s Bay Development Agreement

The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Natural Resources, confirms that Vale has met the terms of the amended Voisey’s Bay Development Agreement by formally sanctioning construction of an underground mine at Voisey’s Bay. Vale’s commitment to build an underground mine was negotiated by the Provincial Government as part of an amendment made to the agreement announced in March 2013.
