Minister Announces New Net Metering Policy Framework

The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Natural Resources, today announced the province’s new net metering policy framework. Net metering will allow utility customers with small-scale generating facilities to generate power from renewable sources for their own consumption. Once the framework is fully implemented by the utilities, customers will be able to feed power into the distribution system during periods when they generate excess power and draw power from the grid when their generation does not fully meet their needs.
Thirteen Communities to Receive Broadband Service

The Provincial Government is investing over $291,000 in broadband access as part of the Provincial Government’s commitment to providing leading edge telecommunications services and infrastructure. Broadband coverage will be extended to almost 800 households in 13 rural Newfoundland and Labrador communities. Industry Canada’s Connecting Canadians Program is also contributing over $611,000 to the third phase of the initiative and work will be completed by Bell Aliant.

Provincial Government Expands Marystown Government Service Centre

The Government Service Centre in Marystown now provides a full suite of motor registration division services as a result of recently completed changes. The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Service NL, officially launched the expanded service at the centre in Marystown today. Glovertown Bridge Naming Honours Andrew Sheppard

In the summer of 2012, the Town of Glovertown lost one of its young residents to a kayaking accident on the Terra Nova River. Andrew Sheppard was 22 at the time of the accident. He was well-known in his community, serving as a member of the Glovertown Fire and Rescue Department and as a cadet with the Royal Canadian Legion. Today, in honour of Andrew and his contributions to the community, the bridge over the Terra Nova River in Glovertown was named the Andrew Sheppard Memorial Bridge.
