The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Service NL, along with the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness, and Social Development and MHA for Burin - Placentia West, and the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development and MHA for Grand Bank, will announce an expansion of services at the Government Service Centre in Marystown tomorrow (Friday, July 24). The event will take place at the Government Service Centre located at 1 Harris Drive at 2:00 p.m.

The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works, will be in Glovertown tomorrow (Friday, July 24) to name the bridge over the Terra Nova River the Andrew Sheppard Memorial Bridge. Minister Brazil will be joined by the Honourable Sandy Collins, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services and MHA for Terra Nova, Glovertown Mayor Doug Churchill and council to unveil the name. The event will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the bridge in Glovertown along Main Street South.
OHS Charges Arise from Fatal Roadwork Incident

Service NL announced today that the Provincial Government’s Department of Transportation and Works has been charged with violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations. The charges are the result of an investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Branch of Service NL.

The program ensures that residents who are at an average risk of colorectal cancer can be screened for early detection and diagnosis of colon cancer.

A new community sustainability partnership was announced through Budget 2015 that will provide communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador with increased revenues and capacity supports. One of the priorities of the community sustainability partnership is to continue to ensure clean and safe drinking water for the residents of the province. Today, a contract to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that will assist in reducing Boil Water Advisories (BWAs) in Newfoundland and Labrador was awarded to Big East Engineering Inc.

Revitalizing the Port of St. Anthony with $80,000 Investment

The Provincial Government is providing $80,000 in funding to the St. Anthony Port Authority to support future infrastructure enhancements. The investment will allow the port authority to complete a feasibility study focused on improving harbour access and infrastructure in order to maximize potential growth opportunities for the port. Funding is being provided through the Regional Development Fund and builds on previous funding of approximately $3 million for the authority.
Consultations Will Examine the Adoption of an Energy Code for Large Buildings

Minister Participates in Sod-Turning Ceremony for New RCMP Detachment

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, today attended a sod-turning ceremony in Twillingate to officially start the process of constructing a new Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment for the region. Minister King was joined at the event by the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Natural Resources and MHA for The Isles of Notre Dame, and Andrew Boland, Chief Superintendent of Criminal Operations with the RCMP.

The governments of Manitoba, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Ontario are establishing a Pan-Canadian Task Force to reduce the use of diesel fuel to generate electricity in remote communities.
