Recognizing key areas of growth of communities and families, the Provincial Government is committed to building modern infrastructure which meets the needs of today’s students and educators. To that end, a Request for Proposals (RFP) has been issued to hire consultants to begin planning for various K-12 infrastructure projects as announced in Budget 2015 for the communities of Paradise, Witless Bay/Mobile, Shoal Harbour and Conception Bay South.

With an investment of $29,400 through the Fisheries Technology and New Opportunities Program, the Provincial Government is supporting Eastern Fish Markets Ltd. in Carmanville to complete market research and develop a marketing plan. This initiative will help the company increase their share of the live lobster market and build the value of their product in the long run.
Celebrating 25 Years of Mineral Exploration Education

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Prospector Training Course, which is offered by the Provincial Government and College of the North Atlantic (CNA). The course designed as an intensive field-oriented program that provides practical instruction on prospecting methods from a variety of mineral exploration professionals.
Minister Announces Funding for Cape St. George Fire Department

Firefighters in the Town of Cape St. George will have enhanced capabilities in the near future through an investment of $250,000 for a new tanker unit. The equipment will be cost-shared with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent of the funding and the Town of Cape St. George covering the remaining 10 per cent.

Province Enhances Provincial Brush-cutting Program

The Provincial Government will expand brush-cutting efforts this fall through an additional investment of $1 million, bringing the total allocation to $3 million for this year.
Provincial Government Awards Contract for Road Upgrades for Communities in the Grand Bank Region

The Provincial Government has awarded a contract for a number of upgrades to provincial roads in the Grand Bank region. The contract which was recently awarded to Nortech Construction Co Ltd. of St. John’s is valued at over $1.7 million. The work is scheduled to be completed this construction season.

MV Veteran Begins Voyage to Newfoundland and Labrador

The MV Veteran, the new ferry to service the communities of Fogo Island and Change Islands, begins its voyage to Newfoundland and Labrador this weekend. The new 14-knot, 80-metre ice-class vessel with roll-on, roll-off capability, has been undergoing the final stages of construction at Damen Shipyards in Romania. The voyage to the province is expected to take approximately one month, weather and sea conditions permitting.

The Forestry and Agrifoods Agency is warning residents about wolf sightings in the area of Labrador City and Wabush. Recent sightings have been confirmed by conservation officers with the agency.

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) is investing $106,000 to renovate two social housing properties on New Pennywell Road in St. John’s. The contract was recently awarded to Eastern Siding Systems Ltd.
Over $26,000 Supports Upgrades to the North West Brook Marina

The North West Brook Recreation Committee Inc. is better positioned to take advantage of the growing recreational boating market through a Provincial Government investment of over $26,000. Funding will be used to expand the facility from 40 to 70 berths by adding four floating docks, as well as modifying the existing breakwater in order to provide more protection to moored vessels.
Approximately $2.7 Million Provided for Health Care Services in Gander

Residents of Gander and the surrounding area will benefit from an investment of approximately $2.7 million through Budget 2015 to enhance several of the region’s health care facilities.

Over $6 Million Invested in Health Care for Grand Falls-Windsor and Buchans

Through a Provincial Government investment of more than $6 million, health care facilities in Grand Falls-Windsor and Buchans will benefit from new equipment and upgrades. Funding will support the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Carmelite House, and the A.M. Guy Memorial Health Centre. The Honourable Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Community Services, was in Grand Falls Windsor to make the announcement today, together with the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and MHA for the District of Grand Falls-Windsor - Buchans, and Rosemarie Goodyear, Chief Executive Officer, Central Health.
Twillingate Region to Receive Road Upgrades

Upgrades to provincial roads in the Twillingate and Virgin Arm areas will be completed this construction season as the result of a tender valued at just over $2 million awarded to J-1 Contracting Ltd of Clarenville.
Renovations Underway at Historic Garrick Theatre

The Garrick Theatre in Bonavista will see structural improvements that will enhance the visitor experience as a result of a Provincial Government investment of $72,000. The project is being led by the Bonavista Historic Townscape Foundation.

Students at LeGallais Memorial in Isle aux Morts will benefit from a contract worth more than $722,000 for new windows and siding upgrades.
Minister Announces New Vehicle for Bay Roberts Fire Department

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced funding for a new rescue pumper unit for the Town of Bay Roberts. The vehicle, valued at approximately $270,000, will be cost-shared with the Provincial Government providing 80 per cent of the funding and the Town of Bay Roberts covering the remaining 20 per cent.
