Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner: Commissioner Satisfied with Steps Taken by Eastern Health in Response to Breach

On June 23, 2015, Eastern Health reported a privacy breach to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) in which a non-encrypted flash drive containing employee names, Social Insurance Numbers and employee numbers had gone missing. Information of 9,000 employees was on the device: 3,300 included the SIN; 5,700 did not have the SIN.
Roads in Port Au Port Region to Receive Upgrades

Roadwork valued at over $1.7 million throughout various regions of the province's west coast, including the Port au Port Peninsula, will be completed by Mike Kelly & Sons Ltd. The work for the Port au Port region, including paving, asphalt levelling and guiderail repairs is anticipated to be completed this construction season.

Provincial Government Increases Capacity for South East Bight Ferry Service

The Provincial Government continues to improve and modernize the provincial ferry fleet with increased passenger capacity for the South East Bight ferry service. The MV Norcon Oceanus, which operates between South East Bight and Petit Forte on the province's south coast, now has a maximum capacity of 36 passengers - up from 12.

The new Early Learning and Child Care Directory was launched today and can be viewed at childcare.gov.nl.ca.

The Provincial Government is investing $1.5 million in economic infrastructure and an expanding aquaculture industry on the south coast which will see the refurbishment of the Harbour Breton wharf and the introduction of new technology at the fish plant. This investment will allow the plant to reopen this fall, creating approximately 100 jobs.
