The Big Game Draw for the 2017-18 Newfoundland and Labrador hunting season has been completed and results are being mailed out to applicants across the province. Successful applicants for moose and caribou licences will be informed first while unsuccessful applicants can expect notification shortly thereafter.

The Seniors of Distinction Awards program was designed to identify and celebrate the contributions, achievements and diversity of older persons throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
Public Advisory: Bottom Brook Bridge Closed to Heavy Vehicle Traffic

Effective immediately, the Bottom Brook Bridge located one kilometre along the Notre Dame Junction forest access road off the Lewisporte Highway, also known as Mackey Freake’s Road, is closed to all heavy vehicle traffic. The bridge will remain open to ATV, light vehicle and pickup truck traffic only, until further notice.
Provincial Delegation Visits Beaumont-Hamel

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has joined a delegation from Newfoundland and Labrador including veterans, Royal Canadian Legion members and students to Beaumont-Hamel in France and will attend a ceremony at Newfoundland Memorial Park at tomorrow (Saturday, July 1) to commemorate the Battle of the Somme. The ceremony is part of a week-long pilgrimage to First World War commemoration sites in Belgium and France.
Newfoundland and Labrador Celebrates Canada 150

The Provincial Government is inviting residents and visitors to Newfoundland and Labrador to be among the first in the country to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday on Canada Day (Saturday, July 1) by attending one of the many Canada 150 events scheduled across the province.
Building Hope through Safe Affordable Housing in St. John’s

The Governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador will invest an additional $1.5 million in a redevelopment project that will help individuals in the community move from homelessness to stable affordable housing. The Centre of Hope project will create 20 units of affordable housing, providing safe and stable housing to those who need it most. The Salvation Army, Newfoundland and Labrador Division will also provide education, health and addiction services.
Provincial Government and Town of Forteau Sign Municipal Habitat Stewardship Agreement

The Town of Forteau and the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources have entered into a new Municipal Habitat Stewardship Agreement that will help protect valuable wetland and coastal habitats located in the community. A ceremony was held in Forteau yesterday marking the official signing of the agreement attended by Lisa Dempster, MHA for Cartwright - L’Anse au Clair and Town of Forteau Deputy Mayor Jim Roberts.
Newfoundland and Labrador Joins Other Provinces in Releasing Compensation Disclosure Information

In line with the Public Sector Compensation Transparency Act (the Act), passed in December 2016, the Provincial Government today posted online the 2016 Public Sector Compensation listings. The lists includes all employees in government and specified public bodies including agencies, boards, commissions, health care bodies, educational bodies and Crown corporations who receive total compensation of over $100,000 a year.
Premier Ball to Announce Supportive Housing Investment for Salvation Army Centre of Hope

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador will announce a supportive housing investment for the Salvation Army Centre of Hope tomorrow (Friday, June 30). The event will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the proposed Centre for Hope location at 18 Springdale Street, St. John’s.
Public Advisory: Two Closed Sections of the T’Railway Provincial Park Reopen

Two sections of the T’Railway Provincial Park that were damaged by the Thanksgiving 2016 rain event have been repaired. Sections from Grand Falls-Windsor to Jumpers Brook and from Jumpers Brook to Notre Dame Junction are now reopened to the public.

Extension of Lodging Provided at 5 Wing Goose Bay to Mud Lake Residents Displaced by Flooding

The Provincial Government has been granted a 30-day extension from the Federal Government for temporary accommodations at 5 Wing Goose Bay for residents of Mud Lake, who have been displaced from their homes, due to flooding in May.
Public Advisory: Update on Bell Island and Fogo Island Ferry Services

The MV Flanders, which has been undergoing repairs, will re-enter service tomorrow (Friday, June 30) on the Bell Island - Portugal Cove service. The MV Norcon Galatea will remain in service while the MV Beaumont Hamel undergoes required maintenance returning to service on the Bell Island - Portugal Cove run on Sunday, July 2.

Eric Healey Named 2017 Canada Summer Games Flag Bearer

Softball player Eric Healey has been named Team Newfoundland and Labrador’s flag bearer for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2017 Canada Summer Games, taking place July 28 to August 13 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Provincial Government made the announcement during the athlete’s rally at the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre (Powerplex) in St. John’s. Another Important Milestone Reached in Effort to Restart Wabush Mine

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, is acknowledging that another important milestone has taken place concerning ongoing efforts to restart Wabush Mines. With approval granted under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act yesterday in Montreal, Tacora Resources Inc. has now been approved to purchase the assets of Wabush Mines, including the assignment of contracts.
