The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Natural Resources, today joined the Honourable Andrew Younger, Nova Scotia Minister of Energy, and Chris Huskilson, President and CEO of Emera, in a ground-breaking ceremony at the Bottom Brook construction site in Newfoundland and Labrador. The purpose of the event was to recognize the start of construction of the Maritime Link Project and to sign an industrial and employment benefits agreement for the project.

Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation, Glenn Corporation Ltd. and the Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Commission are pleased to announce the settlement of three human rights complaints relating to the former Hamilton Hotel. The complaints stem from an incident in July 2007 in which Innu attending the Hamilton Hotel for a training session were made unwelcome as Innu persons and instructed to leave the premises by the manager.

Provincial Historic Commemorations Program Recognizes Four New Designations

Four new designations were announced today under the Provincial Historic Commemorations Program. The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, made the announcement at a ceremony in St. Lawrence. The inductees are Charles Pearcey of St. John’s, the miners of St. Lawrence, the Fisherman’s Protective Union, and the riot in Badger in 1959.

The minister was joined by representatives from community partners, including the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women and the Newfoundland and Labrador Sexual Assault Crisis and Prevention Centre.
