The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, announced today the Hurricane Season Flood Alert System is now available online. The alert system allows online access to updates of the province’s flood maps and establishes a risk alert system to warn local residents and travellers when flood risks are high.
Corner Brook Company Sentenced for Public Safety Violations

Service NL announced today that Western Building Products was sentenced Tuesday, November 4, in Corner Brook Provincial Court upon pleading guilty to a violation of the Public Safety Act and Electrical Regulations. The case arose as the result of an investigation by Service NL’s western regional office in Corner Brook.

The Governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador today announced a combined investment of more than $68 million over five years to help more individuals and families access affordable housing and renovate their existing homes. The funding will be delivered through an extension to the Investment in Affordable Housing (IAH) agreement, administered in this province through Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC).

A Provincial Government investment of close to $678,000 through Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation’s Provincial Homelessness Fund will enable nine non-profit groups throughout the province to improve services for those at risk of homelessness. The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation, made the announcement today at the Choices for Youth offices on Duckworth Street in St. John’s.

The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, joined with funding partners IBM and the Government of Canada to launch the Translational and Personalized Medicine Initiative (TPMI). The Provincial Government is contributing $7.2 million to a $50 million fund, which will be allocated over the next five years. Led by Memorial University, TPMI will bring the latest and most innovative discoveries in health research directly to patients in an effort to enhance care and treatment options.

“Workin’ It”, an employment fair for inmates, was held today at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary. The Provincial Government and community stakeholders joined in planning this event which included representatives from organizations that can provide employment and employment preparation for offenders.
Dialogue App Will Allow All Residents to Participate in Health Care Consultations

A new interactive online engagement tool known as the Dialogue App has been launched to assist residents in providing feedback to the Provincial Government on ways in which the primary health care system in Newfoundland and Labrador can be enhanced. The app is now available at: dialogueapp.gov.nl.ca. Feedback will be used to help shape the agenda for the Premier’s Summit on Health Care on January 14, 2015.
