The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation is investing $118,000 to install new kitchen cabinets in 17 social housing homes in the Stephenville area. The work will be carried out by Newfoundland and Labrador Housing workers.

The Provincial Government is today encouraging Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to celebrate the outstanding volunteer contributions of the province’s youth. Nominations are now open for the 2015 URock Volunteer Awards. The deadline is Wednesday, March 18.

The Honourable Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Community Services, will speak at the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (ARNNL) Annual Council Meeting tomorrow (Thursday, February 26). The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. at the ARNNL Office, 65 Military Road in St. John’s.

The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills, will address the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum Atlantic Roundtable tomorrow (Thursday, February 26) in St. John’s. The event, Engaging Employers in Apprenticeship Training, takes place at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland at 8:30 a.m.

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, presented the Cultural Tourism Award and Doug Wheeler Award at the annual Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador Conference and Trade Show today in Gander. The Wooden Boat Museum of Newfoundland and Labrador was recognized with the Cultural Tourism Award and O’Brien’s Whale and Bird Tours received the Doug Wheeler Award.

Three principals from Newfoundland and Labrador are being honoured tonight (Tuesday, February 24) at the 11th Annual Canada’s Outstanding Principals Gala in Toronto. The event is sponsored annually by The Learning Partnership, a national organization dedicated to strong public education systems.

Natural Resources

The Provincial Government announced today that a further amendment to the Voisey’s Bay Development Agreement has resulted in an estimated additional $200 million in compensation and a $30 million commitment for community initiatives in the province. Vale is constructing the Long Harbour processing plant to process nickel concentrate from the Voisey’s Bay mine into finished nickel products.

In recognition of Inclusive Education Month, the Provincial Government is encouraging schools throughout the province to apply for this year's Inclusive Education Awards, offered by the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Community Living.

Natural Resources

The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Natural Resources, will hold a news conference tomorrow (Tuesday, February 24) to make an announcement on the Voisey's Bay Development Agreement. Minister Dalley will be joined by Stuart MacNaughton, Vice President of Vale's Newfoundland and Labrador Operations.
