Proposed Legislation Will Assist Police in Locating Missing Persons

The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced new legislation aimed at locating and protecting missing persons in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Missing Persons Act will receive second reading in the House of Assembly today and is intended to provide the police with the tools necessary to move more quickly and efficiently on those investigations where it is known that a person is missing but there is an absence of evidence that a criminal wrongdoing has occurred. Premier Davis was joined at the announcement by the Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Chief Bill Janes and Royal Canadian Mounted Police Chief Superintendent Andrew Boland.

This certification is provided by the Global Aquaculture Alliance, an international, non-profit trade association dedicated to advancing environmentally and socially responsible aquaculture.

Icewater Seafoods Inc. Receives $200,000 to Enhance Cod Processing Facility

Icewater Seafoods Inc., a processing company based in Arnold’s Cove that specializes in cod and groundfish products, will receive $200,000 from the Provincial Government to help install new equipment that will significantly boost product yield and quality. The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, announced the funding through the Fisheries Technology and New Opportunities Program today. This funding will support the installation of Icelandic heading and mincing equipment that is new to the fish processing industry in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Human Rights Commission Marks Human Rights Day with New Canadians

The Human Rights Commission will mark International Human Rights Day on December 10 with a gathering at the Association for New Canadians' Language School at 10 Smithville Crescent. The commission chair and staff will discuss human rights with Language School students, and will mark the event through a social gathering and an exhibition of students' writing on the theme of human rights.

This year’s slogan Human Rights 365 encompasses the idea that every day is Human Rights Day.
