The Auditor General today released her 2018 Report on the Audit of the Province’s Financial Statements, her first since assuming the role. The report provides an unqualified (“clean”) audit opinion on the Consolidated Summary Financial Statements for the year ending March 31, 2018, and comments on government’s approach to fiscal management over the short and long term.

Auditor General, Julia Mullaley, delivered her report to the House of Assembly today on the Update on Recommendations from the December 2014 and June 2015 Reports on Reviews of Departments and Crown Agencies. The report provides an overview of the implementation status of 131 recommendations made in these reports that included 17 organizations.

In her report, Ms. Mullaley shares observations about the financial condition of the Province and highlights risks to achieving the Province’s budget targets to 2022-23.

Auditor General, Julia Mullaley, will deliver her annual report to the House of Assembly tomorrow on the audit of the financial statements of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador for the year ended March 31, 2018. The deadline to provide input in response to an application from industry stakeholders requesting to designate the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic as a compulsory certified trade in Newfoundland and Labrador is December 21.

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, is commending the province’s four regional health authorities for their efforts to increase mental health services and supports for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians through Therapy Assistance Online (TAO Connect), an e-health technology service.

During the holiday season, it is recommended that residents protect their homes from the effects of carbon monoxide.

The Provincial Government today announced it has reached collective agreements with seven bargaining groups represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). Ratification on these agreements was concluded by Friday, December 7, and they will expire in 2020.

Today, the Provincial Government has announced two full-time appointments to the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Review Division (WHSCRD).

Children, Seniors and Social Development

Today, the Honourable Graham Letto, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, was joined by the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, to announce funding for the Swilers Rugby Football Club. The ministers were joined at the announcement by Dr. Noel Browne, President, and Dr. Patrick Parfrey, Vice-President of the Swilers Rugby Football Club.

The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, today accepted a report on the province’s tax system from the Independent Tax Review Committee (ITRC). The review considered the tax capacity of the province, taking into account issues such as competitiveness and economic impacts.

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources is undertaking a land development project in the Town of Cormack for fruit and vegetable production. New and existing farmers in need of land to operate and develop an Agricultural Crown Land lease for commercial production are encouraged to apply.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, joined students and teachers at Vanier Elementary School today to celebrate the first-ever national torch relay for the Canada Winter Games.

The event will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the Swilers Rugby Football Club, 100 Crosbie Road, St. John’s.
