Public Advisory: Residents Encouraged to Report Winter Bat Sightings

Residents are encouraged to report any bat sightings during the winter to help inform surveillance of white-nose syndrome (WNS) – a deadly, non-native bat disease that causes widespread mortality in hibernating bat species and has decimated hibernating bats throughout the Maritimes and the northeastern United States. Several cases of WNS have been confirmed in western Newfoundland since May 2017.

Comprehensive Review of Provincial Solid Waste Management Strategy and Senior Appointments Announced

The Provincial Government is undertaking a complete review of the Provincial Solid Waste Management Strategy. This review will assess the progress of the strategy since it was announced 16 years ago in 2002, the associated policy and legislative framework, and the role and mandate of the organizations involved in its implementation. On average, provincial waste management costs tens of millions of dollars annually. The strategy has not been reviewed since it was announced, which makes this work vital to ensuring waste management within the province is providing desired outcomes in a strategic, efficient and equitable manner.
Minister Davis Announces Support for YWCA Mentorship Program that Helps Newcomer Women Join the Workforce

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills, and Labour, today announced $75,000 in funding for the YWCA to deliver a Newcomer Women’s Leadership and Employment Mentorship Project. The project will help improve confidence and leadership skills, ensuring newcomer women are better able to join the workforce.
New Agreement signed with the Pharmacists’ Association of Newfoundland and Labrador

The Provincial Government has signed a new three-year agreement with the Pharmacists’ Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (PANL). The agreement addresses the compensation of pharmacists when providing medications and services to those who participate in the Newfoundland and Labrador Prescription Drug Program (NLPDP). The new agreement valued at $58.7 million per year is effective as of December 21, 2018. It will expire on March 31, 2021
