The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

The Information and Privacy Commissioner, Donovan Molloy, has released his Report A-2018-022 under authority of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015. A summary of the Report is included below.

Office of the Chief Electoral Officer

Elections Newfoundland and Labrador is in need of qualified individuals to work at the polls in the Windsor Lake by-election. Workers are needed for the advance polls on September 13 and 15, and for by-election day on September 20.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today released the terms of reference for the Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities (PUB) to examine options to mitigate Muskrat Falls.

As big game hunting season is set to begin in most areas of the province, hunters are reminded of changes to the Wildlife Act and Regulations that support inclusion, improve access and increase participation in hunting throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, will attend the meeting of the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers (CCFM) starting tomorrow (Wednesday, September 5) at the Westin Nova Scotian in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

With the arrival of the Labour Day long weekend and the overall increase in traffic into the busy fall season, motorists are advised to slow down and drive cautiously in construction zones and be vigilant in watching for moose.

Candidate nominations closed today, August 30, at 2:00 p.m. for the upcoming by-election in Windsor Lake. The three officially nominated candidates are as follows:

The Governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada are teaming up to provide a $1.725 million investment to S&P Data, which will support the establishment of a 500 person in-bound contact centre in St. John’s. Over the next five years, it is expected that the S&P Data contact centre will generate up to $131 million in economic activity.

To advance commitments to increase timber allocations and harvest levels by 20 per cent by 2020 as outlined in The Way Forward, the Provincial Government’s Commercial Cutting Permit Allocation policy will come into effect January 1, 2019.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will announce an investment that supports the province’s economic development tomorrow (Thursday, August 30). The event is taking place at the S&P Data entrance, Village Shopping Centre, 430 Topsail Road, St. John's, beginning at 1:30 p.m. The S&P Data entrance is on the far east end of the mall, across from Wendy’s. Those attending can take the stairs or elevator to the second floor.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, welcomes the decision of the International Trade Commission to eliminate the tariffs imposed on Corner Brook Pulp and Paper. The decision is a major win for the province, Corner Brook Pulp and Paper, and the forestry industry, which is a significant economic generator in communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
