The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General and co-chair of the Minister’s Committee on Violence Against Women and Girls, is hosting the group’s second meeting to set the priorities for the upcoming year. He will be joined by the Honourable Carol Anne Haley, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will attend an announcement by C-CORE tomorrow (Tuesday, February 12). The event takes place in the 4th floor Frontier Room at the C-CORE office, 1 Morrissey Rd, St. John's, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

As part of their social enterprise activities, the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (ASNL) is partnering with Trades NL and Iron & Earth East to design and build a year-round greenhouse that will use clean technology to produce sustainable food products. To facilitate this project, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is contributing $50,785 and the Government of Canada is providing a non-repayable contribution of $60,000.

The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, will speak at the Rotary Club of St John’s Northwest luncheon tomorrow (Tuesday, February 12). The event takes place at the Holiday Inn, 180 Portugal Cove Road, St. John's, beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, today visited St. Matthew’s Elementary school to mark Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, February 10-16, in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Provincial Government is seeking input from employees and employers in response to an application from industry stakeholders requesting to designate the Sprinkler System Installer trade as a compulsory certified trade in Newfoundland and Labrador. Only registered apprentices and journeypersons may work in a compulsory certified trade.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, will celebrate Canada’s Agriculture Day with educators and students tomorrow (Tuesday, February 12) at Anthony Paddon Elementary, 73 Goose Bay Drive, Musgravetown. Minister Byrne will speak to students and guests between 11:30 a.m. and noon.

Our government has always wanted to see the shipyard in Marystown become a hub of economic activity and job creation for our province, and we have worked in partnership with the Town of Marystown in an effort to make that happen.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, and Nick Whalen, Member of Parliament for St. John’s East, will do a tour and announce funding for the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador’s social enterprises on Monday, February 11. The tour will take place at the Elaine Dobbin Centre for Autism, 70 Clinch Crescent, St. John's, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Natural Resources

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, will bring greetings at the opening ceremonies of the Mount Pearl Frosty Festival today (Friday, February 8). The event will take place at The Glacier, 45 Olympic Drive, Mount Pearl, at 7:00 p.m.

The Honourable Graham Letto, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Fisheries and Land Resources

FireSmart Canada is accepting applications for Wildfire Community Preparedness Day Awards through the national FireSmart Canada Community Recognition Program. The program provides grants to help community organizations fund local projects that help reduce the risk of wildfire damage to homes and neighbourhoods.

As part of National Inclusive Education Month, the Provincial Government, through the Newfoundland and Labrador Association for Community Living, is inviting nominations for the 2019 Inclusive Education Award. Information on the Inclusive Education Award can be found at www.nlacl.ca. The deadline for submissions is April 12, 2019.

Fisheries and Land Resources

Fisheries and Land Resources officials remind the public not to feed wildlife or leave unsecured food or garbage where animals can access it following increased observations of foxes in the Flatrock area. Unsecured food and dumping of garbage are typically the root cause of wildlife conflicts in human populated areas. There are existing prohibitions on dumping garbage in all areas outside of designated municipal waste disposal facilities.
