Fisheries and Aquaculture

The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will address the Great Humber Joint Council tomorrow (Saturday, February 28) in Corner Brook. The Joint Council meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. with Minister Granter's address taking place at 11:30 a.m. at Corner Brook City Hall, 5 Park Street, Corner Brook.

Justice and Public Safety

The Provincial Government today announced that an agreement has been reached with the City of St. John’s for the operation of a 911 call-taking centre, also known as Public Safety Answering Point, for the new province-wide Basic 911 service for the Avalon Peninsula.

Finance

The Department of Finance advises the public that pre-budget consultation sessions continue to take place across the province. The Honourable Tony Cornect, Minister of Service NL, and the Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will host a community session tomorrow (Friday, February 27) in Stephenville from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Days Inn. The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will address the Greater Corner Brook Board of Trade tomorrow (Friday, February 27). The luncheon will commence at 12:00 p.m. at the Glynmill Inn, 1 Cobb Lane, Corner Brook.

Justice and Public Safety

The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, will participate in the first ever National Roundtable on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The meeting is being held in Ottawa tomorrow (Friday, February 27).

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation is investing $118,000 to install new kitchen cabinets in 17 social housing homes in the Stephenville area. The work will be carried out by Newfoundland and Labrador Housing workers.

The Provincial Government is today encouraging Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to celebrate the outstanding volunteer contributions of the province’s youth. Nominations are now open for the 2015 URock Volunteer Awards. The deadline is Wednesday, March 18.

The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills, will address the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum Atlantic Roundtable tomorrow (Thursday, February 26) in St. John’s. The event, Engaging Employers in Apprenticeship Training, takes place at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland at 8:30 a.m.

The Wooden Boat Museum of Newfoundland and Labrador was recognized with the Cultural Tourism Award and O’Brien’s Whale and Bird Tours received the Doug Wheeler Award.
