The event, hosted by the Provincial Government and Mining Industry NL, was part of the annual Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada’s (PDAC) international convention and trade show.
Provincial Government to Implement Recommendations of the Independent Report on the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act

The Provincial Government will implement the recommendations contained within the ATIPPA Review Committee’s Independent Statutory Review of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act and is working to quickly develop an implementation plan. The committee conducted a comprehensive review, including examination of amendments made through Bill 29. The report is available at http://ope.gov.nl.ca/publications/index.html.

Nutrition Month Focuses on Healthy Eating in the Workplace

March is Nutrition Month, and the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development, and the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Finance and Minister Responsible for the Human Resource Secretariat, joined with representatives from Dietitians of Newfoundland and Labrador today (Monday, March 2) to sign a proclamation to help raise awareness on the importance of healthy eating. This year’s theme is Eating 9-5!, which highlights ways to inspire people to eat better at work, and make positive changes for a healthier workplace.

Provincial Government Takes Action to Further Protect Red Wine Mountain Caribou Herd

The Provincial Government’s latest survey of the Red Wine Mountain Caribou sub population, traditionally found in the northern part of the Red Wine Mountain, indicates this herd is at its all-time low of approximately 20 animals. As such, government is taking steps to ensure any work activity in the area, including Nalcor’s development of the Muskrat Falls Generation Project, involves minimal disturbances to the remaining animals.
Residents of Northwest Avalon Peninsula to Benefit from Approximately $2.8 Million in Health Care Funding

Four health care facilities serving families on the Northwest Avalon Peninsula will receive new equipment through an investment of approximately $2.8 million. The Honourable Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Community Services, made the announcement today in Carbonear. Minister Kent was joined by Glenn Littlejohn, MHA for Port de Grave, and George Butt, Vice-President of Eastern Health.

As an update to the public advisory issued earlier today, the Department of Environment and Conservation is clarifying that Butter Pot Provincial Park is closed from the Park Checkpoint and beyond to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic effective immediately. Vehicular access is permitted to access the ski chalet.
