Public Advisory: MV Apollo to Provide Service Out of Corner Brook
Transportation and Works
Due to impassable ice conditions, cold temperatures and forecasted winds in St. Barbe, the Department of Transportation and Works advises that the MV Apollo will provide service between Blanc Sablon and Corner Brook beginning today (Thursday, March 12). The change in port is the result of a recommendation from the Canadian Coast Guard and consultations with Coast Guard, Labrador Marine Incorporated and Transportation and Works.

All-Party Committee States Position to the Federal Government

The all-party committee on federal shrimp quota allocations officially outlined its position to the Honourable Gail Shea, federal Minister of Fisheries and Oceans today about how the Federal Government should proceed with Northern Shrimp allocation decisions. The All-Party Committee supports the total allowable catch rollover for Shrimp Fishing Area 6 for this year as requested by both the inshore and offshore fleet, and has asked for the Last In, First Out (LIFO) policy to be rescinded and replaced with a new sharing arrangement that is fair to both valued fleets. The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will host a session in Springdale tomorrow (Thursday, March 12) from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Riverwood Inn. The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, will host a session Friday, March 13, in Corner Brook from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Glynmill Inn. To prepare for the February 2016 arrival of the MV Legionnaire, tenders are being released for required wharf upgrades for Portugal Cove and Bell Island.
