Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador (FES-NL) encourages residents to be cautious around coastlines and waterways over the coming days as there is potential for elevated water levels due to large waves and pounding surf associated with a weather system forecast to affect the province tomorrow (Thursday, February 12).

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation has awarded a $269,000 contract to Bursey Cleaners (2010) Ltd., to provide exterior retrofits to 10 social housing units in a building on Brophy Place in St. John's.

The Department of Environment and Conservation, Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Town of Badger are monitoring water levels and ice conditions on the Exploits River.

The Provincial Government is recognizing February 7-14 as Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week. The Honourable Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Community Services, joined members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Heart Support Group to sign the official proclamation.

The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will address the Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association Annual Conference and Trade Show tomorrow (Wednesday, February 11) at 9:30 a.m. This event will take place in Salon D of the Hotel Gander, 100 Trans Canada Highway, Gander.

The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, will announce a review of the Lands Act tomorrow (Wednesday, February 11) at 2:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Media Centre, Ground Floor, East Block, Confederation Building.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is providing $85,000 to enhance access to a significant historical attraction in Rigolet. With funding from the Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, the Rigolet Inuit Community Government will extend a community boardwalk, to allow visitor access to an Inuit archeological site dating back approximately 250 years.

The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, wishes to advise that Chief Justice J. Derek Green has appointed the Honourable Mr. Justice Robert Stack as the Chairperson of the Newfoundland and Labrador Electoral Districts Boundaries Commission in accordance with subsection 3(3) of the Electoral Boundaries Act.

The Provincial Government, through Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation, today released an independent consultant's report on homelessness entitled A Road Map for Ending Homelessness in Newfoundland and Labrador. The report, prepared by OrgCode Consulting Inc., included province-wide stakeholder input.

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, is congratulating winners of the Atlantic Canada Craft Awards of Excellence. Minister King presented awards at the ceremony, which took place Saturday, February 7, at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax as part of the 38th annual Atlantic Craft Trade Show.

This is the 38th annual Atlantic Craft and Trade Show, showcasing the work of craftspeople from across the Atlantic Provinces.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association will be hosting the Under-12 Boys and Girls Club Championships this weekend at Goulds Elementary, and at Morris Academy in Mount Pearl.

The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will bring greetings at the official opening of the annual Mount Pearl Frosty Festival today (Friday, February 6). The event will commence at 7:00 p.m. at the Mount Pearl Glacier, 45 Olympic Drive, Mount Pearl.

The Provincial Government is providing $20,900 through the Regional Development Fund in support of two craft sector initiatives. The Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador will receive $17,500 to establish a Labrador Crafts Management Committee for training and research to help grow and diversify the craft market in Labrador and $3,400 for the Gros Morne Artist's Residency Program, scheduled for the end of February.
