Today's announcement by Statoil, providing results of its offshore exploration program, is good news for Newfoundland and Labrador as it confirms the presence of hydrocarbons in the Baccalieu and Bay de Verde prospects in addition to the Bay du Nord, Harpoon and Mizzen discoveries.

Finance

The Honourable Cathy Bennett, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, will address the Financial Management Institute 29th Annual Public Sector Management Workshop Monday, June 13. The event will take place at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John’s at 8:45 a.m.

Executive Council

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement, will provide greetings at the Lebanese Association of Newfoundland and Labrador’s 10th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, June 12, at 2:00 p.m.

Under section 13.5 of the Fatalities Investigations Act, the Minister of Justice and Public Safety is required, within 60 days after receiving a report from the Child Death Review Committee (CDRC), to make public those recommendations relating to:

Transportation and Works

The Department of Transportation and Works has issued 25 tenders since launching the 2016-17 road construction season in March, with a further 10 tenders to be issued for roadwork across Newfoundland and Labrador. The projects are funded under the $62 million Provincial Roads Program. In addition, numerous projects valued at $55 million in provincial and cost-shared funding are continuing from previous years.

Environment and Conservation

The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Environment and Conservation, will participate in the inaugural meeting of the Federal-Provincial-Territorial-Indigenous Forum today (Friday, June 10).

Service NL

Service NL advises that on Monday, June 13, the opening of Government Service Centre / Motor Registration offices in Grand Falls-Windsor will be delayed as a result of a scheduled power outage. Service is expected to begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. In the event of an urgent need for service while the office is closed that morning, members of the public can call 709-256-1420. Regular hours of operation will resume after June 13.

The Provincial Government’s strategic partnership with the Southern United States – Canadian Provinces Alliance (SEUS-CP) continues to enhance and develop economic opportunities in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, participated in the 9th Annual SEUS-CP Conference, May 26-28, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Executive Council

The inaugural session of the House of Assembly, under the leadership of the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, concluded today. The productive session, which included 38 pieces of legislation, demonstrated the Provincial Government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, as well as openness, transparency and accountability.

Fisheries and Aquaculture

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will deliver an additional presentation in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to the Ministerial Advisory Panel carrying out the external review of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans’ Last-In, First-Out (LIFO) policy for the Northern Shrimp fishery. Minister Crocker will be making this presentation on behalf of the All-Party Committee on Northern Shrimp Allocations.

Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

The Provincial Government and the Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation (NLFDC) are co-leading a group of 10 emerging to mid-level filmmakers on a business development mission to Los Angeles, June 4-9. The Provincial Government is providing $25,000 through the Business Development Support Program to support the mission.

Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

Today, Sylvain Vinet, Senior Vice President, Retail Markets, Eastern Canada for CIBC, presented Tom Foran, Chair of The Rooms Corporation, and Dean Brinton, CEO of The Rooms Corporation with $100,000 donation to The Rooms Where Once They Stood We Stand capital campaign. This brings the total raised to date to $11.1 million.

Mr. Speaker, I rise in this Honourable House to note that Roadcheck 2016 will be carried out in our province, and throughout North America from today, June 7, until Thursday, June 9.

Natural Resources

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to highlight the Provincial Government’s participation in the 29th Annual Baie Verte Mining Conference from June 3 to 4.

Executive Council

Greenhouse gas emissions from industrial emitters will be reduced and a new fund for clean technology will be established through the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Management of Greenhouse Gas Act . The act will reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the province through a form of carbon pricing and comes after significant consultation with local large industry.
