Transportation and Works

Media interested in photographing or videotaping the Outer Ring Road clean-up on Sunday, June 11, will be provided transportation via Metrobus from the parking lot of Confederation Building, West Block. Media vehicles will not be permitted access to the Outer Ring Road.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, will address the 11th annual Environment Day being hosted by the Trinity Bay North Tidy Towns Committee tomorrow (Saturday, June 10). Minister Joyce will speak at approximately 12:00 p.m. at the Frank Power Chalet, 48 Coaker Drive, Port Union.

Fisheries and Land Resources

Investigations conducted by officers with Fish and Wildlife Enforcement with the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources have resulted in recent convictions in Grand Falls-Windsor Provincial Court.

Health and Community Services

Through a total Provincial Government investment of $200,000, the Consumers Health Awareness Network Newfoundland and Labrador (CHANNAL) and the Canadian Mental Health Association - Newfoundland and Labrador (CMHA-NL) will receive support for important outreach and educational work.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism won a record-breaking 21 awards at the 2017 Innovation, Creativity and Enterprise (ICE) Advertising Awards, including the prestigious Best of Show award, at a ceremony last night in Halifax.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, was in Cormack this morning to watch as the Provincial Government, in cooperation with a local farm, took the first steps toward determining the potential of growing malting barley for the province’s beverage and feed industry.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

In partnership with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Community Business Development Corporations (CBDCs), the Provincial Government announced $200,000 towards a new level of micro-loan financing called Drive.

Justice and Public Safety

Earlier this year, the Government of Canada introduced legislation that if passed, will legalize the sale, growth, distribution and possession of cannabis (marijuana) across the country. It is anticipated that this federal legislation will be in place by July 2018.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will participate in the Placentia Bay Age Friendly Fair this weekend. On Friday, June 9, at 1:00 p.m. the minister will address guests at the opening ceremonies at Unity Parc Area, 1 Arena Road, Placentia. Minister Gambin-Walsh will also speak at the awards reception, beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at Star of the Sea Hall.

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, will view the planting of the province’s first malting barley crop tomorrow (Friday, June 9). The event begins at 11:00 a.m. at Larch Grove Farm, 405 Veteran’s Dr. in Cormack.

World Oceans Day, recognized annually on June 8, provides a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the world’s oceans.

The Provincial Government joined the City of St. John’s today to officially open the new Paul Reynolds Community Centre. The facility will serve as a hub for the community and is named after an important local resident, Paul Reynolds, who was mayor of the Town of Wedgewood Park before amalgamation with St. John’s in 1992.
