Provincial Government Amends Regulations Under the Medical Care and Hospital Insurance Act
Health and Community Services
The Provincial Government today made amendments to the regulations enacted under the Medical Care and Hospital Insurance Act. The regulations have been amended to add a section which further clarifies that the medically necessary removal and replacement of a cataractous lens is an insured service covered by MCP and the surgery must be performed in a hospital or a designated facility. The regulatory amendments do not apply to non-medically necessary, elective procedures.
Almost All NAPE Employees Will Receive Quarter One Severance Payouts as Requested

The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board and Minister Responsible for the Human Resources Secretariat, today announced that 96 per cent of NAPE employees that requested severance payouts in the first quarter will receive their payments in that period. This will represent $35.7 million in payments to 3,422 employees. The remaining employees that requested first quarter payments, will receive them in the second quarter.

Minister Osborne Announces New Fraud Management Policy

The Provincial Government today announced a new Fraud Management Policy for core government employees, officers and contractors. The policy, which is now in effect, will assist departments in developing fraud management practices, including fraud prevention and detection as well as awareness of fraud risks.

New Ambulatory Care Space to Enhance Patient Care at Carbonear General Hospital

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced an investment of $5 million to create a new ambulatory care space at the Carbonear General Hospital, as well as the opening of 28 long-term care beds at the Pte. Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion. The total project cost includes $3.2 million from Budget 2018.
Contract Awarded for Flood Risk Mapping Study of Lower Churchill River

The Provincial Government has awarded a contract for a flood risk mapping study, a flood forecasting model and a flood forecasting service for the lower Churchill River. The contract was awarded to KGS Group for $931,000, and work is anticipated to be completed by March 31, 2019. The information will assist in identifying areas that may be impacted by climate change as well as associated flood alert levels and flood hazard areas in the area.
