The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development and Minister Responsible for the Status of Persons with Disabilities, will host an event tomorrow (Thursday, June 21), to highlight the 2015-18 Action Plan for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources will hold public consultation sessions to prepare a new five-year operating plan for Forest Management Districts 14 and 15 (Zone 6). The meetings are an opportunity for participants to provide input on potential environmental effects of proposed forestry activities on social, economic and recreational conditions associated with the forest resource.

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, today acknowledges World Refugee Day.

Natural Resources

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, will bring greetings at the 2018 Atlantic Canada Petroleum Show in St. John’s today (Wednesday, June 20) at 3:30 p.m. at Mile One Centre.

Executive Council

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, in collaboration with the Public Legal Information Association of NL (PLIAN) and the Newfoundland and Labrador Sexual Assault Crisis and Prevention Centre (NLSACPC), today launched a program that offers free legal support to survivors of sexual violence.

Natural Resources

The Department of Natural Resources Building in St. John’s at 50 Elizabeth Avenue will be closed for the remainder of the day due to a water main break.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will attend the Federal, Provincial and Territorial meetings of Ministers responsible for culture and heritage. The meetings take place June 19-20 in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will bring greetings at the Waypoints AGM tomorrow (Tuesday, June 19). The event will take place at the Capital Hotel, 208 Kenmount Road, St. John’s, at 6:30 p.m.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will speak at the College of the North Atlantic’s graduation ceremony in Grand Falls-Windsor tomorrow (Tuesday, June 19). The event begins 1:00 p.m. at the Gordon Pinsent Centre for the Arts, 3 Cromer Avenue.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

Members of Team Newfoundland and Labrador’s mission staff for the 2019 Canada Winter Games were announced today by the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development. The games will be held from February 15 to March 3, 2019, in Red Deer, Alberta.

The The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Health and Community Services

The Provincial Government today made amendments to the regulations enacted under the Medical Care and Hospital Insurance Act. The regulations have been amended to add a section which further clarifies that the medically necessary removal and replacement of a cataractous lens is an insured service covered by MCP and the surgery must be performed in a hospital or a designated facility. The regulatory amendments do not apply to non-medically necessary, elective procedures.

The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board and Minister Responsible for the Human Resources Secretariat, today announced that 96 per cent of NAPE employees that requested severance payouts in the first quarter will receive their payments in that period. This will represent $35.7 million in payments to 3,422 employees. The remaining employees that requested first quarter payments, will receive them in the second quarter.

In 2002, the United Nations identified the mistreatment of older adults as a violation of internationally recognized human rights. In 2006 the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse launched the first World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15.
