Executive Council

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, along with a delegation of over 100 Royal Canadian Legion members, veterans and students, and the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band, is travelling on an annual pilgrimage to Beaumont-Hamel, France, June 27 to July 4.

The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, will join the Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources and MHA for St. John’s West; Nick Whalen, Member of Parliament for St. John’s East; and Danny Breen, Mayor of the City of St. John’s; tomorrow (Friday, June 29) for a funding announcement for important infrastructure.

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will attend a meeting of federal, provincial and territorial health ministers in Winnipeg on June 28-29.

The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of ServiceNL, will join Churence Rogers, Member of Parliament for Bonavista-Burin-Trinity, for a site visit of the Dildo Brewing Company tomorrow (Friday, June 29).

The portion of the T'Railway Provincial Park from Logger School Road to Gallants has been repaired and is now open.

Transportation and Works

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Newfoundland and Labrador Minister of Transportation and Works, and Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, today announced over $4.8 million in funding for improvements to the Veterans Memorial Highway.

Education and Early Childhood Development

As today is the official last day of the 2017-18 school year, the Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, is congratulating the 67,000 K-12 students, as well as all teachers and staff, on a successful year and wishing them a safe and enjoyable summer break.

The Provincial Government today announced it has reached tentative collective agreements with seven bargaining groups represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

Mark Browne, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will bring greetings at the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the national historic significance of James Patrick Howley tomorrow (Thursday, June 28). The unveiling takes place in the Theatre Room of The Rooms, 9 Bonaventure Avenue, St. John’s, at 11:00 a.m.

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will attend the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Skills Summit 2018 taking place in Portugal, June 28 and 29.

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, will attend the meeting of federal, provincial and territorial minsters responsible for parks, protected areas, conservation, wildlife and biodiversity starting today (Wednesday, June 27) at Metropolitain, 700 Sussex Dr., Ottawa, Ontario.

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources is partnering with local rod and gun associations to offer hunter skills workshops to young people between the ages of 12 and 17.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

Twelve athletes from Newfoundland and Labrador will receive funding from the Elite Athlete Assistance program for 2018.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The Governments of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and Nunatsiavut are investing more than $900,000 for two projects, including a youth-led social enterprise and an economic development conference to promote products and services in Labrador.

A value-for-money assessment completed by EY has recommended the Provincial Government partner with the business community to procure a new 94-bed, adult mental health and addictions facility to replace the Waterford Hospital.

Health and Community Services

The Provincial Government today released Grant Thornton’s report on staffing and payroll of all private and community road ambulance operators in Newfoundland and Labrador. The review was a result of public concerns about ambulance availability and staffing across the province triggered by issues in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Today, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs, on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, along with representatives from Vale, the Nunatsiavut government, Innu Nation, and NunatuKavut Community Council, announced a $23.6 million project led by the Labrador Aboriginal Training Partnership (LATP). This includes approximately $3 million from the Provincial Government and over $9.6 million from the federal Skills and Partnership Fund (SPF).
