Fisheries and Land Resources

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, will provide an update on the department’s two-year study on hook-and-release practices in Newfoundland and Labrador tomorrow (Wednesday, July 18). The update, including a technical briefing, will be provided at 11:00 a.m. at the Wildlife Division offices, 117 Riverside Drive (Brake’s Cove), Corner Brook.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

The Governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada have provided conditional approval to 10 private and three non-profit sector groups to develop 93 new affordable housing units throughout the province, including 13 fully accessible units. These new homes will be supported by a $6 million cost-shared federal-provincial investment through an extension to the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Agreement for Investment in Affordable Housing 2014-19.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour’s Regatta Plaza office at 80-84 Elizabeth Avenue in St. John’s will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday, July 17) to accommodate a planned water shut-off.

Today, the Provincial Government announced appointments to the board of directors of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. The appointments were based on a list of recommendations provided by the Independent Appointments Commission.

Started in 1979, the Stephenville Theatre Festival is the longest running professional theatre festival in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and his team of ministers, today released an Education Action Plan. The plan, which guides actions to implement the recommendations from the Premier’s Task Force on Improving Educational Outcomes, will result in a strengthened education system that is more responsive to the needs of students.

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, today announced construction will begin on the new Green Bay Health Centre in Springdale. Construction is scheduled to begin in August and is expected to take 18 to 20 months to complete.
