Office of the Chief Electoral Officer

A corrected version of the Voter Information Card for Windsor Lake is being circulated by Elections Newfoundland and Labrador. The new cards were mailed on Friday past (September 7) and should be received by electors in the next day or so.

Education and Early Childhood Development

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today helped mark the start of the 2018-19 school year and progress of the Education Action Plan while speaking with students at East Point Elementary School. Premier Ball was joined by the Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and Bernard Davis, MHA for Virginia Waters-Pleasantville.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will make an infrastructure announcement on Monday, September 10, that will benefit communities across Newfoundland and Labrador. Premier Ball will be joined by the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, federal Minister of Infrastructure and Communities; the Honourable Seamus O’Regan, federal Minister of Veterans Affairs and MP for St. John's South - Mount Pearl; and Danny Breen, Mayor of the City of St. John’s.

Justice and Public Safety

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, will be attending a therapy session being held by Spirit Horse NL at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary on Monday, September 10. Media are invited to join Minister Parsons and Spirit Horse NL Program Director Erin Gallant to meet the horses and learn about the program. Media should arrive by 1:00 p.m. for a 1:15 p.m. start.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

Derek Bennett, Parliamentary Secretary for Children, Seniors and Social Development and MHA for Lewisporte - Twillingate, on behalf of the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, will make an infrastructure announcement that will benefit communities in the central region of the island on Monday, September 10.

Health and Community Services

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will join the Honourable Seamus O’Regan, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Associate Minister of National Defence and Member of Parliament for St. John’s South-Mount Pearl, to announce funding for advanced technology in health care on Monday, September 10, at 1:00 p.m. The event will take place in the Frank and Eileen Gronich Lecture Theatre at the Faculty of Medicine Medical Education Centre on Clinch Crescent in St. John’s.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, will lead a tour and discuss new and ongoing research trials at the Western Agriculture Centre: Agriculture Research Station on Monday, September 10 at 10:30 a.m. The facility, featuring research trials of the department’s Agriculture Production and Research Division in collaboration with Grenfell Campus, Memorial University, and Agriculture and Agri-food Canada, is located off the Trans-Canada Highway, Pynn's Brook. Following the tour the Minister will oversee the harvest of Winter Wheat in Pasadena which will supply local dairy farmers with high quality cereal grain.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will attend the sixth Annual Walk for Survivors of Suicide Loss on Sunday, September 9, at 2:30 p.m. at the Fire Hall, Main Street, Bishop’s Falls.

Justice and Public Safety

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, will be speaking at the Administration of the Oaths of Office to the Honourable Deborah E. Fry as the Chief Justice of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Natural Resources

Today, the Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, provided an update on the independent resource assessment for Newfoundland and Labrador that identifies an additional 11.7 billion barrels of oil and 60.2 trillion cubic feet of gas potential offshore. In total, there is a combined resource potential of 49.2 billion barrels of oil and 193.8 trillion cubic feet of gas in less than seven per cent of our offshore.

Transportation and Works

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced a significantly enhanced marine transportation network for Labrador that will see two modern and capable vessels servicing the Strait of Belle Isle and the north coast for years to come.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced Suna Dau Yath of St. John’s as this year’s recipient of the Council of the Federation Literacy Award. The announcement coincides with International Literacy Day on September 8, which celebrates literacy and skills development.

Natural Resources

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, will release the findings of the 2018 Independent Oil and Gas Resource Assessment tomorrow (Friday, September 7). The event will take place at Memorial University in the Earth Sciences-Alexander Murray Building (ER4065) at 11:00 a.m. The minister will be joined by Jim Keating, Executive VP of Corporate Services and Offshore Development, Nalcor; and Pierre-Yves Chenet, Chief Technical Officer, Beicip Franlab.

Transportation and Works

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Transportation and Works, will make an announcement on the future of the ferry services across the Strait of Belle Isle and to northern Labrador tomorrow (Friday, September 7).

Elections Newfoundland and Labrador is in need of qualified individuals to work at the polls in the Windsor Lake by-election. Workers are needed for the advance polls on September 13 and 15, and for by-election day on September 20.
