Today, the Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Government of Canada celebrated the opening of the new Shushepeshipan Group Home. This Innu-led, operated and staffed group home is part of the Innu’s larger vision to have placement resources available in the communities of Sheshatshiu and Natuashish when Innu children and youth require a period of out of home care.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, today toured PanGeo Subsea Inc., to receive an update on the development of PanGeo’s SeaKite, a Remote Operated Tow Vehicle (ROTV)/ Sub-Bottom Imager (SBI) that provides cutting-edge 3D sub-seabed imaging capability on an active towed platform.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will tour PanGeo Subsea tomorrow (Thursday, August 16). The tour will take place at the company’s headquarters, 16 Mackey Place, St. John's, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will join Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador, on behalf of the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services Canada, and Chief Eugene Hart, Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation tomorrow (Thursday, August 16) to announce a new Innu led group home placement resource for Innu children and youth.

The Department of Transportation and Works has awarded three contracts valued at $81,000 in total for proponents to provide services to monitor the speed of vehicles in construction zones during the 2018 construction season.

As the annual meeting of governors and premiers from New England and Eastern Canada concludes, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, welcomed the shared recognition of the economic importance of the Canada-United States relationship – in particular, that the New England-Eastern Canadian trade corridor is the 14th largest in the world.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, and the Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, today congratulated Memorial University for placing 38th on the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy’s list for engineering research. Memorial is the only Canadian university to make the highly influential list, which ranks the top post-secondary institutions for the study of marine/science engineering in the world.
