The event takes place at the John Howard Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, Provincial Headquarters, 342 Pennywell Road, St. John’s, at 2:00 p.m.

Today, the Provincial Government announced appointments to the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women, based on a list of recommendations provided by the Independent Appointments Commission.
Crown Land Provided for Newfoundland Pony Preservation

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources has issued a 50-year agricultural lease for approximately 10 hectares of Crown land near Hopeall, Trinity Bay, to the Newfoundland Pony Society to ensure the continued preservation and care of this important and unique species. The society will use the land for protection, pasture and breeding, and to create a Newfoundland Pony Heritage Park.

Auditor General, Julia Mullaley, today released a special report on the Management of the Procurement of Goods and Services at the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District (NLESD). The audit covered the period July 2011 to June 2016, and was focused on the Facilities Branch in the Eastern region of NLESD. This report was completed in response to Government’s request to the Auditor General in April 2016.

Consultations to Begin on Emergency Health Services and Community Paramedicine Legislation

The Provincial Government will hold public consultations to help inform the drafting of new Emergency Health Services and Community Paramedicine Legislation. New, dedicated emergency medical services legislation will bring Newfoundland and Labrador in line with other jurisdictions, and increase accountability and establish provincial ambulance performance standards. Through the consultation process, the department will seek input on how to ensure the new legislation consolidates and improves existing legislation, allows for the adoption of national guidelines, improves system transparency and accountability, reduces regulatory confusion, and implements program standards.
