Executive Council

The Honourable Carol Anne Haley, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, joined Mary Shortall, President, Newfoundland and Labrador Federation and Labour, and Debbie Hibbs, mother of Julianne Hibbs and advocate for the prevention of violence, as well as other partners and stakeholders today for a flag rising ceremony and proclamation signing at Confederation Building to mark the start of the 2018 Purple Ribbon Campaign.

Finance

The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board and Minister Responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation will announce several changes to NLC regulations to support a modern alcoholic beverage industry on Monday, November 26 at 11:00 a.m. The event will take place at the Dildo Brewing Company & Museum, located at 80 Front Road.

Finance

The Provincial Government today announced it has reached a tentative collective agreement with the Association of Allied Health Professionals (AAHP). Subject to ratification, this agreement is for a term of four years, and will expire on June 30, 2020.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

The Honourable Graham Letto, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

Mr. Speaker, I rise in this Honourable House today to recognize National Housing Day. Across the country each year, November 22 is devoted to raising awareness about housing and homelessness and finding solutions to address Canada's housing needs.

Municipal Affairs and Environment

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to provide this Honourable House with an update on the ongoing review of our province’s municipal legislation.

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services will attend the Sod Turning Ceremony for the new Wastewater Treatment Plant in Gander tomorrow (Friday, November 23) at 1:00 p.m.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will attend the annual Committee on Internal Trade (CIT) meeting. This meeting of federal, provincial and territorial ministers responsible for internal trade will be held tomorrow (Friday, November 23) in Montreal, Quebec.

Justice and Public Safety

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, today announced the establishment of a Drug Treatment Court in St. John’s that will commence hearing matters on November 30.

House of Assembly

The Standing Committee on Privileges and Elections tabled an interim report today in the House of Assembly providing an update on its work to develop a Legislature-specific harassment-free workplace policy. The report includes a summary of some common themes the Committee has noted throughout its consultations and jurisdictional analysis, along with a preview of directions it will be taking in its final recommendations to the House. It also includes a recommendation for immediate action regarding mandatory training for all current MHAs to be offered as soon as possible. The Committee will table its final report during the Spring 2019 sitting.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will bring greetings to new Canadian citizens at a Citizenship Ceremony tomorrow (Thursday, November 22). The event takes place at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland, 115 Cavendish Square, St. John’s, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
