Today, Newfoundland and Labrador will issue a test message of the national emergency alerting system, Alert Ready, at 1:55 p.m. (NST) and 1:25 p.m. in Labrador (AST). Residents need not take any action when receiving the test message.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, November 28), provincial and territorial emergency management organizations will be issuing public test messages through Alert Ready, the national emergency alerting system. Newfoundland and Labrador will issue one test message to be distributed over television, radio and to compatible wireless devices at 1:55 p.m. (NST) and 1:25 p.m. in Labrador (AST).

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will make an announcement tomorrow (Wednesday, November 28), that will benefit the Town of L’Anse au Clair. Premier Ball will be joined by the Honourable Graham Letto, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment; the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development and MHA for Cartwright - L’Anse au Clair; the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation; and Chad Letto, Mayor of L’Anse au Clair. The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, L’Anse au Clair.

(Tacora), announced the restart of Scully Mine in Wabush. Also attending the event was the Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources; the Honourable Graham Letto, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment and MHA for Labrador West; Yvonne Jones, MP for Labrador and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Intergovernmental and Northern Affairs and Internal Trade; Clementine Kuyper, Manager of the Innu Business Development Centre; and Ron Barron, Mayor of Wabush.

Health and Community Services

The Department of Health and Community Services in collaboration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (NLCHI) is seeking input from home and personal support workers through an online survey to better understand their training and educational needs. Results of the survey will help to inform the development of an educational strategy, a recommendation of the Provincial Home Support Program Review.

The Honourable Tom Osborne, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board and Minister Responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation (NLC), today announced several changes to regulations that will support the province’s fast-growing craft beverage industry and promote growth.

The Honourable Carol Anne Haley, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, today announced the appointment of Paula Sheppard as President/CEO of the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women. Ms. Sheppard’s appointment, effective January 2, 2019, is for a three-year term.

The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Service NL, will bring greetings at the Victims of Violence Vigil on Sunday, November 25. The event takes place at the Salvation Army, Main Highway, Dildo beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will bring greetings at the Skills Canada Intermediate Challenge Awards Ceremony tomorrow (Saturday, November 24) at 4:30 p.m. at College of the North Atlantic’s Prince Philip Drive Campus in St. John’s.

Today, the Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services and MHA for Gander, participated in a sod-turning ceremony held to celebrate the beginning of construction of the Town of Gander’s new wastewater treatment plant. Minister Haggie was joined for the event by representatives of the Federal Government and Percy Farwell, Mayor of Gander.

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will bring greetings at the 60th anniversary of the James Hornell Boys and Girls Club in Buchans tomorrow (Saturday, November 24) at 6:30 p.m. The event is being held at the United Church Hall, 12 Church Street.
