Investment of $1.3 Million Will Improve Municipal Infrastructure on the Northern Peninsula

The Provincial Government is committed to improving municipal infrastructure across Newfoundland and Labrador. As a result, $1.3 million in cost-shared funding is being invested in the District of The Straits – White Bay North to upgrade the water system in the Town of St. Anthony and for lift station projects in the Town of Roddickton-Bide Arm.

Public Advisory: Repairs Scheduled for the Outer Ring Road

The Department of Transportation and Works is advising motorists that on Tuesday, September 2 repairs will begin to the overpass above Groves Road on the Outer Ring Road. The repairs are expected to take three to four weeks and require traffic to be reduced to one lane.
Public Advisory: Residents and Municipalities Advised to Prepare for Rapid Tide-Like Changes

Fire and Emergency Services–Newfoundland and Labrador (FES-NL) is monitoring Hurricane Cristobal. The recent update by the Canadian Hurricane Centre advises residents in coastal areas on the eastern portion of the island to watch for changing elevations in water levels outside of the natural high and low tide cycle.
Mussel Farming Software Supported with Investment of More Than $30,000
Fisheries and Aquaculture
Two provincial mussel farming operations will develop and implement new software to enhance operations with help from the Provincial Government. The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, announced $30,180 through the Fisheries Technology and New Opportunities Program today to help Sunrise Fish Farms Inc. in Green Bay and its sister company Connaigre Fish Farms Inc. in the Coast of Bays pursue the project.
Minister Provides Update for Basic 911 Implementation and Announces Public Safety Answering Points

The Provincial Government has determined the locations and boundaries of the Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) for the expansion of Basic 911 service. Today’s announcement was made by the Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-NL, and is a critical step forward for the Emergency 911 Act.

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Education, provided a full-day Kindergarten update today (Wednesday, August 27) to participants at Play the Kindergarten Way, a two-day workshop focusing on early literacy development and play-based learning.

Public Advisory: Aerial Vegetation Management Program Completed Near Clam Pond

The Department of Natural Resources advises that 130 hectares of forest plantation was treated with the herbicide Forza today (Tuesday, August 26) to control competing vegetation in the Clam Pond Resource Road area of Forest Management District 16. The treatment was part of the department’s 2014 Aerial Vegetation Management Program which has now concluded.
