Provincial Government Marks National Advance Care Planning Day in Newfoundland and Labrador

The Provincial Government is recognizing today, April 16, as National Advance Care Planning Day – an opportunity to raise awareness of the benefits of identifying health and personal care preferences in the event a person becomes incapable of consenting to or refusing treatment or other care.

The Forestry and Agrifoods Agency advises that forest access roads in the Botwood, Glenwood, Birchy Bay and Clarkes Head areas will be closed to vehicle traffic effective Tuesday, April 21, until further notice. The roads will remain open to snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles.

The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will participate in a Sport Newfoundland and Labrador announcement tomorrow (Thursday, April 16) regarding Sportfest 2015, which will be held on the west coast of the province in June. The announcement will take place at the Corner Brook Civic Centre (Annex Lobby) beginning at 12:00 noon.
Salmon Poaching Incident Leads to Jail Time

An investigation by officers with the Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division into salmon poaching on the Northern Peninsula has led to a conviction and jail time for an individual from the area.

The Department of Environment and Conservation wishes to advise the public that the new Provincial Parks Campsite Reservation Service, www.nlcamping.ca, is now available for the purpose of creating a user profile and exploring the site’s new features. A user profile is required to make campsite reservations for the 2015 camping season.

The Provincial Government has issued a tender for the construction of a new school for Grades 5-9 in the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s. The school will house an anticipated population of approximately 500 students upon opening and is designed to allow for expansion to accommodate 700 students if necessary.

Sport Newfoundland and Labrador held its annual Stars and Legends Awards Gala Saturday evening, April 11, amongst athletes, coaches, volunteers and sporting enthusiasts at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John’s. Eight Provincial Annual Awards were presented and six individuals were officially inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame.
