Seniors, Wellness and Social Development

The Provincial Government is partnering with the Coalition of Persons with Disabilities (the Coalition) to implement a media and marketing project designed to create more positive perceptions of persons with disabilities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The project, entitled Creating a Positive Image of Disability through Marketing and Media, is being supported through a $50,000 Provincial Government investment.

Transportation and Works

Roadwork valued at $665,000 is underway in the Port de Grave region. The work is being carried out by Concord Paving Ltd. of Carbonear and includes paving, drainage improvements and culvert replacements. The roadwork is anticipated to be completed this construction season.

The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will announce a new Downpayment Assistance Program for first-time homebuyers, tomorrow (Thursday, October 22) at Easter Seals House, 206 Mount Scio Road, St. John's.

The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, will speak at the Irish Loop Regional Collaboration Workshop tomorrow (Thursday, October 22) at 12:00 p.m. The workshop is taking place at the Social Centre located on Coarse Hill in Trepassey.

Seniors, Wellness and Social Development

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development and Minister Responsible for the Status of Persons with Disabilities, will join the Coalition of Persons with Disabilities (the Coalition) to launch a new marketing and media inclusion project tomorrow (Thursday, October 22). The event is taking place at Royal Newfoundland Constabulary headquarters media room, 1 Fort Townshend, St. John's, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will address members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Counsellors' and Psychologists' Association (NLCPA) tomorrow (Thursday, October 22) at 8:45 a.m. at the Capital Hotel in St. John's.

Fisheries and Aquaculture

The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister Responsible for the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency, and Clayton Forsey, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister Responsible for the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency, will address members of the Registered Professional Foresters of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Canadian Institute of Forestry - Newfoundland and Labrador Section tomorrow (Thursday, October 22) at Lion Max Simms Camp near Bishop's Falls.

Under section 13.5 of the Fatalities Investigations Act, the Minister of Justice and Public Safety is required, within 60 days after receiving a report from the Child Death Review Committee (CDRC), to make public those recommendations relating to:

With the support of the Provincial Government, the St. John's International Women's Film Festival is once again welcoming the international film community to St. John's. Funding of $85,000 has been provided to the 2015 festival.

The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, was in Labrador City this morning (Wednesday, October 21) to provide an update on progress made on a three-year Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) revitalization project that has so far seen $2.2 million allocated to the Cavendish Crescent neighbourhood. The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works, will welcome the newest addition to the provincial ferry fleet, the MV Veteran, to Newfoundland and Labrador on Friday, October 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Pier 8, St. John's Harbour.

Environment and Conservation

The Town of Torbay demonstrated its continuing commitment to protecting valuable habitat for wildlife today by officially signing an expansion of its Municipal Habitat Stewardship Agreement with the Department of Environment and Conservation. The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, was joined by Kevin Parsons, MHA for Cape St. Francis, and Ralph Tapper, Mayor of Torbay, at the official signing ceremony.

The Honourable Felix Collins, Attorney General, will proclaim National Teen Driver Safety Week tomorrow (Wednesday, October 21). Minister Collins will be joined by representatives from Safety Services NL, students, municipal leaders, and business representatives. The event will take place in the Laval High School gymnasium, located at 67-91 Beach Road in Placentia, at 11:00 a.m.

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, today recognized October 18-24 as Small Business Week and acknowledged the social and economic contributions of the province's business community, entrepreneurs and economic development groups throughout the province.

Transportation and Works

The Minister's Advisory Committee on Labrador Transportation has concluded discussions regarding the provision of marine services throughout the region. The input gathered and advice of the committee to the Minister of Transportation will now help inform the development of a Request for Proposals for marine service for the Strait of Belle Isle and Labrador north coast.
