The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, today announced that a new safe prescribing course is being developed for health care professionals in Newfoundland and Labrador. The course is being developed in partnership with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (CPSNL) and Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine.

Federal and Provincial Governments Issue Tender for TCH Improvements in Central Newfoundland and Labrador

Through a cost-shared funding agreement between the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Government of Canada, a tender has been called for rehabilitation of the Trans-Canada Highway between Route 340 at Lewisporte Junction to Route 360 at Bay d'Espoir Junction.
Motorists Advised To Be Cautious of Moose on Roadways

The Provincial Government is cautioning motorists to be vigilant and to watch out for moose when driving on the province's roadways. Most of the provincial highway system runs through moose habitat. While accidents are reported year round, more than 70 per cent occur between May and October.

Applications Being Accepted for Prospectors Training Course

The application process is now underway for the Prospectors Training Course being offered by the Provincial Government and College of the North Atlantic. The course takes place at Bay St. George campus in Stephenville from May 30 to June 10, and the deadline for applications is Monday, May 23. Applicants who are 19 years of age or older with an interest in prospecting, geology, or in becoming a mineral exploration professional are encouraged to apply.

Island Caribou Population Remains Robust and Healthy

The results of a recent census of five caribou herds on the south coast of Newfoundland show the island’s caribou population continues to decline but numbers remain healthy, at just under 32,000 animals.
