Federal Funding Relief Brings Changes to Temporary Deficit Reduction Levy

Today the Federal Government, along with the Provincial Government, announced significant funding relief for Newfoundland and Labrador. The Federal Government has deferred the province's payments under the Equalization Repayable Floor Loan. As a result of this relief, the Provincial Government will be making changes to the Temporary Deficit Reduction Levy.

A Provincial Government investment of over $123,000 will help Marble Zip Tours Inc. and Western Newfoundland Brewing Company Ltd, based in the Corner Brook region, build stronger and more dynamic communities and enhance their local economies. The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, toured Marble Zip Line, one of the funding recipients, while in the region last week.

All-Party Committee on Northern Shrimp Allocations Presents Position to Ministerial Advisory Panel on LIFO Policy

Newfoundland and Labrador’s All-Party Committee on Northern Shrimp Allocations is recommending that the Last-In, First-Out (LIFO) policy be discontinued and the offshore fleet should no longer have access to shrimp fishing area (SFA) 6. The All-Party committee presented its position today at the public consultation meeting of the Ministerial Advisory Panel carrying out the external review of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans’ LIFO policy for the Northern Shrimp fishery.

Over $24 Million Available for Cost-Shared Municipal Infrastructure

Twenty-eight municipal infrastructure projects in Newfoundland and Labrador, valued at $24.4 million, will be moving forward immediately, thanks in part to the federal Small Communities Fund. These are the first projects to be cost-shared under the program since the Provincial and Federal Governments signed an agreement in March.

Federal and Provincial Governments Support Expansion of Heart’s Delight-Islington Marina

The Heart's Delight-Islington Marina Committee Inc. is better positioned to take advantage of the growing non-resident and recreational boating market through a combined investment of $220,193 by the Provincial and Federal Governments. Funding will be used to support Phase 3 of the marina development and includes upgrading marina safety and adding extra berths to meet the growing demand particularly by out of province boaters.
