Provincial Government Recognized for Efforts to Increase Accessibility

The Provincial Government's Disability Policy Office has been awarded the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association - Newfoundland and Labrador's (CHHA-NL) Community Accessibility Award for its Provincial Fire Alert Program, which improves the safety in homes of people who are Deaf or hard of hearing. The award presented last night (Monday, September 26) at the Capital Hotel in St. John's.

Minister Parsons Recognizes Recipient of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officer of the Year Awards

At a ceremony yesterday (Sunday, September 25), Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officer Glenda Bateman was named this year’s recipient of the Provincial Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officer of the Year Award, 2015. Officer Bateman was also named the 2015 Shikar-Safari Club International Wildlife Officer of the Year for Newfoundland and Labrador.
Department Invites Applications for Community Addictions Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Grants Program

The Department of Health and Community Services is now inviting applications for the 2016 Community Addictions Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Grants Program. The program provides financial support to individuals, community groups and non-profit organizations interested in creating projects and programs focused on increasing awareness and understanding of mental health and addictions. The application deadline is Friday, October 28.
Right to Know Week Highlighted by Provincial Government

September 26 to October 2, is Right to Know Week in Newfoundland and Labrador and across Canada. The first Right to Know Week was celebrated in Canada in 2006 and is intended to raise awareness about people’s right to access government information while promoting freedom of information as essential to both democracy and good governance.
