Government Investments Help Town Expand and Improve Playground, Heritage Sites and Connections to East Coast Trail

Nick Whalen, Member of Parliament for St. John’s East, attended an event in the Town of Torbay today to announce over $610,000 in community infrastructure investments from the Government of Canada. MP Whalen made the announcement on behalf of Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage (TBC). Bernard Davis, MHA for Virginia Waters-Pleasantville, on behalf of Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, also announced $150,000 in provincial funding for the Town of Torbay.

The Human Rights Commission will join with residents of Newfoundland and Labrador to observe Transgender Day of Remembrance, held annually on November 20. The day is specially designated to memorialize those who have faced discrimination, violence, and murder due to transphobia.
Minister Announces Launch of Recycle at School Program in Central Newfoundland

The Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB) in partnership with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District (NLESD) today announced the launch of Recycle at School, a program that provides schools in the central Newfoundland waste management region with the resources required to participate in the region’s mandatory recycling and garbage program. The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister Responsible for the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board, made the announcement with students from St. Paul’s Intermediate School in Gander.
Non-Resident Hunters Face Charges Following Investigation

Four non-resident hunters are facing charges of illegal possession of big game following an investigation by fish and wildlife enforcement officers which began on October 31 and resulted in the four individuals being detained on November 3. One of the four hunters is also facing charges of illegally applying in the resident big game licence draw and killing a big game animal without a valid licence.
