A tender has been issued for the next phase of the construction of the Team Gushue Highway, which will see the highway extended from Kenmount Road to Topsail Road. Once completed, the highway will connect the Outer Ring Road to Pitt’s Memorial Drive.

Office of the Child and Youth Advocate

In bringing awareness to the issue of bullying, the staff of the Office of the Advocate for Children and Youth will wear pink tomorrow! Jackie Lake Kavanagh, Child and Youth Advocate, puts out a challenge to all individuals in the province, government departments, community agencies, businesses, other statutory offices and the media to wear pink tomorrow and show support for our young people. The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor will upgrade an existing trail system in the town and develop a new trail, thanks in part to investments by the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador totalling more than $677,000.

Auditor General, Terry Paddon, delivered his report on a review of the severance benefits received by Mr. Edmund J. Martin upon his cessation of employment as Chief Executive Officer of Nalcor Energy to the Minister of Finance today.

Public consultations to help establish a clear and consistent method of determining future increases to the minimum wage are ongoing this week, with today’s sessions in Grand Falls-Windsor taking place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at College of the North Atlantic, 5 Cromer Avenue.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

Derek Bennett, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will be in Grand Falls-Windsor on Monday, February 20, to attend an event to raise awareness about the Meals on Wheels pilot project and highlight community partnerships.

Natural Resources

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, will bring greetings at the opening of Oil and Gas Week on Monday, February 20. The event will take place at the College of the North Atlantic Gymnasium, Prince Philip Drive Campus, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today confirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to construct a new acute care regional hospital in Corner Brook.

Environment and Climate Change

Through the cooperative efforts of the Departments of Environment and Climate Change, and Transportation and Works, and the Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation (NLSF), interim repairs to the T'Railway Provincial Park have now been completed. The last section of T'Railway, in the vicinity of Glenwood to Gander, is now open. Assessments, interim repairs and grooming were undertaken by NLSF as short-term measures in order to allow snowmobiling enthusiasts access to the T'Railway for the remainder of the winter 2017 season.

Residents of the Gander region are advised that the Arts and Culture Centre Pool in Gander will reopen tomorrow (Friday, February 17).
