The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to seek proponents to provide mobile communication technology services for provincial departments, agencies, boards and commissions at more competitive rates.

Proposed amendments to the Corporations Act that would make it easier for international graduates and entrepreneurs to establish businesses and create jobs in Newfoundland and Labrador, received second reading in the House of Assembly today.

John Finn, MHA for Stephenville - Port au Port, on behalf of the Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, will bring greetings to the YMCA Enterprise Olympics Conference in St. John’s tomorrow (Thursday, May 24). The conference takes place at the Hampton Inn and Suites, 411 Stavanger Drive, beginning at 12:45 p.m.

Natural Resources

A technical briefing for media on amendments to the Energy Corporation Act related to independent contractors’ information will be provided tomorrow (Thursday, March 24). The briefing will take place in the Media Centre, Ground Floor, East Block, Confederation Building, at 11:00 a.m. The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, will be available to answer questions at 11:30 a.m. following the technical briefing.

Motorists travelling the Team Gushue Highway are advised that as of tomorrow (Thursday, May 24) access to Kenmount Road heading west will be closed for the next several weeks to facilitate ongoing road construction in the area.

The Provincial Government, in conjunction with Eastern Health, is pleased to announce the opening of a dedicated four-bed inpatient eating disorder unit at the Health Sciences Centre.

The Provincial Government and the Government of Canada are investing a total of $95,000 for the Gander and Area Chamber of Commerce to improve the visitor experience at the Gander Tourism Information Centre by building a deck overlooking Gander Lake for musical and theatrical performances.

Legislation to modernize the Schools Act, 1997, to ensure a safe learning environment in the province’s more than 250 schools will begin second reading today in the House of Assembly.

Children, Seniors and Social Development

As part of Budget 2018, the Provincial Government is making $1.79 million available for the Community Healthy Living Fund. Applications for qualifying community-based projects, programs and initiatives for the current fiscal year are now being accepted on an ongoing basis up to January 31, 2019 and funding is based on program priorities and eligibility criteria.
