Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Public Post-Secondary Education Review Committee is holding a public consultation session in Seal Cove for all residents who have an interest in public post-secondary education.

Health and Community Services

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement (CFHI) today released the results of a successful collaboration to appropriately reduce the use of antipsychotic medication among people with dementia living in long-term homes.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will address the 69th annual Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador Convention and Trade Show which is being held from November 14-16 at the St. John’s Convention Centre, 101 New Gower Street.

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will address delegates of the fourth annual Premier’s Forum on Local Government tomorrow (Thursday, November 14). Premier Ball will be joined by the Honourable Derrick Bragg, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment. The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.at the Delta Hotel, 120 New Gower Street, St. John’s. Premier Ball and Minister Bragg will be available to speak to the media at 8:15 a.m.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, will deliver the opening presentation tomorrow (Thursday, November 14) at Memorial University of Newfoundland’s and the Waterford Institute of Technology’s joint conference, The Role of Universities and Other Institutes of Higher Education in Economic, Social, and Cultural Development in Peripheral Regions. The conference begins at 8:00 a.m. at Memorial University’s Signal Hill Campus, St. John’s.

Education and Early Childhood Development

Applications are now being accepted for the K-6 Mathematics Bursary Program. Through the Education Action Plan, bursaries are offered to K-6 teachers to build capacity and to enhance math education in primary and elementary schools.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, today provided an update on the Community Garden Support Program, an initiative to increase food self-sufficiency, access to fresh foods, and consumption of fruits and vegetables.

Natural Resources

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, will bring greetings at the Hope in the City Breakfast tomorrow (Thursday, November 14). The event will take place at the Holiday Inn, 180 Portugal Cove Road, St. John's, beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The Department of Transportation and Works, in collaboration with the Town of Gander, has named a section of the Trans-Canada Highway near Gander as Remembrance Way in honour of the 100 Second World War soldiers and airmen laid to rest at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery and members of the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division.

Due to overwhelming interest, the St. John’s venue for the November 14 public consultation session to help inform the development of a Dementia Care Action Plan, has been changed to accommodate more participants.

Office of the Status of Women

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, the Honourable Brian Warr, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, and the Honourable Carol Anne Haley, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, will proclaim Restorative Justice Week 2019 tomorrow (Wednesday, November 13) at St. Mary’s Elementary School, 124 Waterford Bridge Road, St. John’s, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Fisheries and Land Resources

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, today provided an update on an initiative to help increase the variety of crops grown in Newfoundland and Labrador, and offer commercial farmers a head start to the growing season.
