Students celebrate French language with Chante-la ta chanson

Students from schools across Whitehorse joined their voices in celebration today at Chante-la ta chanson.

An annual concert held at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre, Chante-la ta chanson – or “Sing Your Song” – brings together elementary school children from Core French, Intensive French and French Immersion programs in Whitehorse, as well as those from the French First Language program at École Émilie-Tremblay.

Every school performs a French song selected by their students and all schools participate in a group song at this special event for students, staff and families.

Canada-Yukon Housing Benefit supports homeowners struggling with affordability

In recognition of high interest rates, heating costs and the overall cost of living, eligible Yukon homeowners with low or moderate incomes will soon be able to apply for a one-time payment to help them with their housing costs.

Government of Yukon preparing for wildfire season

The Government of Yukon is preparing for the coming wildfire season by investing in wildfire response capacity and supporting wildfire resiliency in Yukon communities.

In Budget 2024–25, the government is investing in improving planning, communications and capacity initiatives to better prepare for climate emergencies like wildfires. The government continues to fund community-led FireSmart projects across the territory, work with communities to develop wildfire protection plans and develop landscape-level mitigations like the Whitehorse South Fuel Break.

March snow survey shows snowpack is below average to average across most of the Yukon, above average in the North

The Government of Yukon Water Resources Branch has released the March Yukon Snow Survey Bulletin and Water Supply Forecast.

The Porcupine River basin snowpack is well above average at 174 per cent of historical median for March 1, setting a new record. The Lower Yukon and Peel River basins’ snowpack are above average. The Alsek, Upper Yukon, Teslin, Liard, and White basins are close to average. The Central Yukon, Stewart and Pelly River basins are below average.

Government vaping bill will make gains towards addressing increasing vaping rates

The Yukon government is implementing measures to tackle a rise in vaping and reduce the number of vaping-related lung ailments. Today, the Government of Yukon tabled Bill No. 35, the Coordinated Vaping Product Taxation Agreement Act, in the Yukon Legislative Assembly.

The Bill will help target growing rates of vaping across the territory, especially among youth, by enabling the Yukon to participate in a federally coordinated vaping tax.

Government of Yukon announces funding recipients under the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence

The Government of Yukon is pleased to announce $2.2 million in funding to support Yukon-based women’s and gender equity-seeking non-governmental organizations. The funding, which covers the 2023–24 and 2024–25 fiscal years, was made available through the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence.

The funding will support projects that fall under Pillar one and Pillar two of the National Action Plan to End Gender-based Violence: Support for victims, survivors and their families and Prevention.

The Government of Yukon is cheering alongside all Yukoners as over 350 athletes, coaches, cultural performers and support personnel head to the 2024 Arctic Winter Games in Mat-Su Valley, Alaska from March 10 to 16.

Athletes and cultural performers from across the Yukon will be representing Team Yukon and their home communities of Dawson, Haines Junction, Carmacks, Carcross, Watson Lake, Ross River, Marsh Lake and Whitehorse. They will be competing in 20 sports and cultural activities throughout the weeklong Games.
