To further this work, a “What We Heard” document that provides a snapshot of information shared during Community Summit 2014 is now available online. The third summit since 2010, this year’s gathering was unique in that it connected approximately 200 people from the sector province-wide in four locations through innovative, interactive technology.

Visitor Information Centres Receive More Than $145,000 in Funding

The Provincial Government has provided 23 regional visitor information centres throughout Newfoundland and Labrador with a total of $147,800 in operational support through the Visitor Information Centre Program.
Multi-million Dollar Investment Will Improve Recreational Infrastructure on the Burin Peninsula

With funding of more than $12 million from the Provincial and Federal Governments a 3,035 square metre multi-purpose recreational facility is being built in Marystown on the Burin Peninsula. The town is also contributing $2.4 million to the project. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, and the Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency).
Kimberly Jarvis Awarded Provincial Government’s 2014 Students on Ice Scholarship

Kimberly Jarvis, an 18-year-old student from Holy Name of Mary Academy in Lawn, was recently awarded a $12,000 Students on Ice Scholarship through the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. The scholarship will enable Ms. Jarvis to learn about the importance of protecting marine environments while exploring the Arctic on a world-class research vessel staffed with many educators.
Employment Supports Provided to Employees of Terra Nova Shoes

Public Advisory: Update on Freight Delivery to Coastal Communities of Labrador

To assist with the delivery of groceries and other essential items to coastal communities in Labrador, the Provincial Government advises that the cost of freight will be paid for on Air Labrador’s scheduled freight delivery on Thursday, July 10. A second aircraft is also being chartered to assist in delivering freight to these communities which are Black Tickle, Rigolet, Postville, Makkovik, Hopedale, Natuashish, and Nain.
RDC Investment Supports Research Focused on the Oil and Gas Sector

The Research and Development Corporation (RDC) is investing $2.3 million in academic-led R and D projects to help overcome technical challenges in the oil and gas sector, particularly in harsh offshore environments. These Memorial University projects aim to improve safety, environmental protection, and efficiency associated with challenging oil and gas projects, both in Newfoundland and Labrador, and around the world. RDC’s investment in 17 projects will leverage an additional $4.4 million from other funding sources.
