Proposals Requested for Participation in Third Beef Cattle Project

Provincial farmers with experience raising beef cattle are asked to consider entering into a five-year contract that will help advance Newfoundland and Labrador’s beef industry. Proposals to apply for a herd of five Hereford cattle under the Beef Cattle Genetic Enhancement Demonstration Project are being accepted until October 24, 2018. The call for proposals can be found at http://www.faa.gov.nl.ca/pdf/BCGEP_call_for_prosposal_guidelines_2018.pdf.

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment is monitoring Environment and Climate Change Canada weather forecast information on an approaching system that will bring periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds to the island and snow to parts of Labrador beginning today. Strong southeasterly winds of up to 100 kilometres per hour may occur over most of the island and 120 kilometres per hour in the Wreckhouse area. High breaking waves may affect the west and southwest coasts of the island as the system passes on Tuesday. As a safety precaution, the public is advised to keep away from the shoreline. Snow and strong northeast winds are forecast in central Labrador Tuesday evening into Wednesday.
