Mr. Speaker, I rise today to provide an update on the considerable progress we have made with collective bargaining.

Through its Home First approach, the Provincial Government is continuing to work on a number of initiatives in light of the province’s changing demographics that are designed to advance seniors care in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Health and Community Services

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will provide an update on seniors’ care on Monday, October 29. The update will be held in the Media Centre, Ground Floor, East Block, Confederation Building, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

As part of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s ongoing efforts to enhance inclusivity of education and play at schools throughout the province, the Department of Transportation and Works has allocated $500,000 for the installation of additional accessible playground equipment.

Motorists travelling on the Trans-Canada Highway in central Newfoundland now benefit from a number of safety upgrades to highway infrastructure near the Exploits River. The completion of safer, upgraded approaches to the new Sir Robert Bond Bridge marks the end of the final phase of the federal-provincial cost-shared bridge replacement project.

Natural Resources

Today, the Provincial Government launched a virtual data room to provide information on the province’s prospectivity to offshore oil and gas explorers.

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, visited Exploits Meadow Farms in Bishop’s Falls today and saw first-hand the good things that happen when government stands behind its commitment to grow the Newfoundland and Labrador agriculture industry one new entrant at a time.

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, met with members of the Canadian Institute of Forestry – NL Section and the Association of Registered Professional Foresters of Newfoundland and Labrador today, followed by a tour of the Centre for Agriculture and Forestry Development. The former Wooddale Tree Nursery has been re-profiled and is now the centre of innovation for forestry and agriculture in central Newfoundland with a new, strengthened mandate for research and innovation in both forestry and agriculture.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, is attending a meeting of federal, provincial and territorial ministers responsible for innovation and economic development this week. The meeting takes place in Vancouver, British Columbia, October 25-26.

Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour and MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans, will host an event tomorrow (Friday, October 26) to highlight the completion of a major highway infrastructure safety project in the central region. The minister will be joined by Jerry Dean, MHA for Exploits.

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, on behalf of the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will join Nick Whalen, Member of Parliament for St. John’s East, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Danny Breen, Mayor of the City of St. John’s, for a community announcement tomorrow (Friday, October 26).

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

Motorists are advised that beginning 9:00 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, October 26), a temporary detour will be in place on Route 2, Peacekeepers Way.

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, will lead a tour and discuss new and ongoing forestry and agriculture research trials at the Centre for Agriculture and Forestry Development in Wooddale tomorrow (Friday, October 26) at 9:30 a.m.

Mark Browne, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will address the Acadian Youth Parliament tomorrow (Friday, October 26). The address will take place in the House of Assembly, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
